Understanding By Design Backwards Design Process Stage 1 Desired Results Content Standard(s): K.V.

V.2 Apply creative and critical thinking skills to artistic expression. Understanding (s)/goals Students will understand that: The difference between an original piece of art and a reprint. Artists view art differently. That imagery does not have to come from what you see, but can come from what your minds eyes sees when you hear or touch something. Essential Question(s): Why may one persons view of an art piece be different than another persons view? How does art work make you feel? Do you think that it is ok for one artists view to be different from anothers view? Why or why not/Explain your answer? After showing a picture ask: What do you think the artists view was in this artwork? Does your view differ or is it the same? How do you think this artist planned out his piece? Do you think he/she had a plan?

Stage 3 Learning Plan Learning Activities: The class will take a guided tour at the art museum, where the guide will talk to the children about original pieces of art as well as anything that has been replicated. At the Museum the class will go through the souvenir shop and be able to see replications/prints of the art work that they just saw originals of on the tour. Students will plan and design 3 pieces of original art in their favorite medium. Students will write how they feel/ view their fellow classmates art work in their art journals. The class will view and talk about different types of art work. The students will tell the class what their view of the artwork is. We will then talk about how we have different ways that we view art work. The teacher will ask the students why they think people may view artwork differently than others. The students will go to a nearby park, lay or sit on a blanket and quietly listen to their environment, with their eyes closed. The students will then create an original piece of art showing what they saw in their minds eye.
