Module One Teaching is not a job anyone should take lightly.

There is a vast amount of strategies and decision making that goes into being a successful teacher. From reading chapters one, two and three in Learning and Teaching by Kauchak and Eggen and the competencies, understanding more of a background to teaching comes with ease. Teachers in this decade teach differently than teachers use to years ago. In every classroom, there will be a diverse group of students. In addition, positive environments are important to surround students with. After my readings, I now have more knowledge in research and teaching, student diversity, and creating productive learning environments to implement into my own classroom. Developing a student-teacher relationship is ideal for every student to encompass. Research has shown that teachers do make a difference in the lives of their students. I will make it my priority to connect in unique ways with each of mine. One of the hardest challenges for beginning and veteran teachers is motivation (Kauchak & Eggen, 2007). I will do everything in my power to motivate my students to want to learn, even if it requires me dressing up as a silly character that is involved in a lesson plan. As a teacher, I cannot forget to create an authentic learning experience so that every student wants to learn the next assignment. With each of these assignments I give my students, I will monitor their progress to better assess their learning development. As a result, it would give me a better understanding of the different needs of each student in my diverse classroom. Being able to promote pride and motivation in students, teachers should learn about their students cultures. As a teacher, I know every year I will have a diverse group of students. I plan to incorporate the different cultures in my classroom through assignments, projects and videos as much as I can. I will design these in such a way to teach my students different ways of

living, speaking, and treating one another. This is very important to me because there is not one culture that is better than another. They will all show many positives and different ways to experience every day life. At the same time of planning assignments and projects, I will choose wisely for the cost for supplies that may be needed; some of my students may be apart of poverty or low SES (Kauchak & Eggen, 2007).While implementing cultures into my curriculum, I will keep in mind the variety of learning style my students have. All of this depends on having a productive learning development. The first day of school is crucial for the students to understand classroom rules and procedures. In order to have a successful classroom, it will begin with having an agreement between my students and me of the expected behavior. Instead of reacting to problems, I will quietly prevent problems from occurring. For example, I will create new seating charts frequently to make sure students will not be disturbed by another student. This will create a productive learning environment to teach in. My procedures will be carefully explained and monitored until they are an automatic routine with my students (Kauchak & Eggen, 2007). Once the students understand their daily schedule, this will make lesson planning a breeze. Also, I plan to make any intervention of a student misbehaving as quickly and as quietly as possible. All of my students deserve to feel safe and secure when they are in my classroom. Research and teaching, student diversity, and creating a productive learning environment are all elements I will take into my own classroom. I will lead by example what defines being a good teacher. My classroom will be designed around students pride and their culture. In addition, I will make my classroom a warm, welcoming room once each students steps through the door. Each year I will reflect on each element and take away the positives of each method that I used. This will help me become the effective teacher that I deserve to be.
