Making Your Own Play

In groups you are to make your own play that needs to run between 4-8 minutes long.

Characters
Key Characters that you MUST
include

Hero
Damsel
Villain

Other characters can be chosen from the

green sheet including an Igor. Whichever
character you choose must be clearly
identifiable to the audience and should
play an important role throughout most if
not all the scenes.

Every character must show at least 2 different emotions in the play.

Look at the list if you need ideas.

Prop and Set

Your group must use a prop that becomes something different for each character
that uses it. At least 3 characters or more need to use this prop during the play.
Your group can use the chairs, benches and tables in the Drama room to help set the
scene.

Story
The story must include these plot points:
1. The Hero and the Damsel meet.

Do the Hero and Damsel like or dislike each other?

Have they met each other before?
Does the Damsel or Hero have a friend?
Where are they? Choose a location from the sheet.

2. Something happens and the Hero needs to leave

What happens to make the Hero leave?

Do you want to introduce a new character?

3. The Villain enters and talks to the Damsel while building tension

How can you build tension in this scene?

Why does the Villain want to kidnap the Damsel?
Does the Villain have an assistant?

4. The Damsel eventually realises the Villain is evil but too late.

How does the Damsel realise the Villain is evil?

Can she use this information later to help the Hero?

5. The Villain takes the Damsel away to their lair leaving behind a clue.

What is the clue?

Can it be used in the confrontation to the Heros advantage?

6. The Hero returns and finds the clue and realises what has happened.

How does the Hero figure it out from the clue?

Does a new character assist the Hero?

7. The Hero confronts the Villain in his/her lair and tries to bargain for the Damsel

Where is the lair?

Do the Hero and Villain know each other?

8. The Villain refuses and the Hero must find a way to defeat the Villain without using
violence

How can the Villain be defeated?

What is the Villains weakness?
Can the clue, or information that the Damsel learnt, help the Hero?
Does an extra character help the Hero?

9. The Villain is defeated and receives his punishment for his wrongdoing

How does the Villain react to defeat?

What is a suitable punishment for the Villain?

10. The Damsel shows her appreciation to the Hero.

How do the Damsel and Hero feel about each other?

Have they learnt something new about each other?

Bonus points
Can you make one of the Characters have a moment where they break their
stereotype? (e.g. the Damsel for a moment is brave, the Villain for a moment is kind)
Can you have one of your extra characters betray a key character? (e.g. a sidekick
betrays the Hero, a friend betrays the Damsel, an Igor betrays the Villain)
