Endoscope Repair

An Endoscope is a medical instrument utilized for visualizing the interior of

hollow human organs. This instrument has a flexible or supple tube which not only
provides an image for visual examination and photography, but also facilitates
biopsies and salvage of foreign objects.

An endoscope was first introduced into a human body by William Beaumont, an army
surgeon at Mackinac Island Michigan in 1822. The use of electric light was a major
step to improve the endoscope’s performance. Credit goes to Hans Christian
Jacobeaus for the first endoscope examination of the abdomen and thorax with
laparoscopy.

An endoscope consists of –

* A supple or flexible tube

* A light delivery system to enlighten the appendage or item under examination.
The light source is usually outside the body and the light is normally directed
via an optical fibre system.
* A lens system broadcasting the image to the observer from the
fiberscope.
* An additional conduit to enable the entrance of medical instruments or
manipulators. Some of the common faults that occur in endoscope-
* Failures to decontaminate auxiliary endoscope channels.
* Disinfection practices not suggested by Gastroenterology Guidelines.
* Risk of transmission from blood born viruses.
