ration Reinforcement Organization Respect Modeling proper behaviors Understanding Focus Effectiveness Awareness Monitoring Classroom Environment The Classroom environment is: Comfortable Safe Attractive Welcoming Maximizes classroom space Clean Organized The classroom environment will: o Address the needs of the students o Allow each child a personal space for his or her own things. o Include areas that invite group work should not be next to quiet areas where students read or study independently. o Display easily accessible daily schedules and agendas i where students can view easily o allow for ease of movement around classroom Rules and Expectations Establishment of classroom expectations/rules: Each expectation/rule will be decided on as a class They will be written such that they are easily understood All will be expressed in a positive manner Each student and their parent must sign a contract agreeing that they understand the expectations and rules decided upon as a class A list of rules and expectations will be posted prominently in the classroom Students will be reminded of the applicable rules dependent upon their situation/activity The expectations and rules will be reviewed and changed as needed decided upon by the class and teacher Students and parents will be made aware of all school/district expectations as well The teacher commits to discussing to the class what they can expect of him or her Procedures Discipline and Consequences Discipline will be discussed in the appropriate environment with the appropriate audience

There will be focus on the students strengths and positive qualities, rather than the undesirable behavior Teacher will focus on positive personal discipline - Change: recognition that the behavior needs to change - Choice: choosing what can be done to fix/end the behavior - Ownership: Having a choice brings ownership (one has to take ownership of what they have chosen) - Final: The person owns the change they have committed to making/ or have made There will be consequences to not following through with the choice of changing the behavior discussed Teacher and student will discuss logical consequence, with student impute encouraged Consequences will be clearly stated to students External and environmental factors will always be considered when deciding upon the appropriate discipline and consequences Recognition of Good Behavior Provide immediate recognition Offer praise verbally Supply unexpected rewards Notify a parent/spread the word

Utilize whole classroom recognition Remind the child you remember their good behaviors Provide a direct explanation of why the behavior is good to reinforce it

Working With Parents Give positive feedback Provide a newsletter of current classroom activities Invite parent questions, concerns, ideas etc. Keep parents informed. Be as positive as possible as often as possible. Discuss the good more than the bad Keep complete and accurate records for teacher/parent reference Offer assistance and extend availability to parent Emphasize their significance Make Back-to-School Night packets. On the day of Back-to-School Night, have your students create a packet for their families. Include the following: - a welcome letter - the school calendar - your homework policy - a copy of your daily/weekly schedule - important phone numbers - enrichment activities for parents to do with their children at home - a calendar outline and explanation of your curriculum for the upcoming school year
