September 15, 2013 Subject: Science Grade: Kindergarten Teacher: Michelle McNeill I. Standards: AL. SC(K) 10) Identify objects observed in the day sky with the unaided eye, including the sun, clouds, moon, and rainbows. II. Objectives: Students will be able to answer how clouds are formed. Students will be able to print and name samples of clouds. Students will be able to locate clouds with their cloud finder they completed. III. Introductory Activity: The teacher will call all students to the reading carpet where they will sit on their assigned colored square. The teacher will ask the students about clouds and what they know about them. The teacher will then ask specific questions about clouds What are clouds? How are clouds formed? Why are clouds white? How do clouds move? The teacher will then pull up the following website: http://www.weatherwizkids.com/weather-clouds.htm where the students will look at examples of clouds and answer the previous questions. The teacher will then read the book The Cloud Book by Tomie de Paola. IV. Developmental Activity: The students will then return to their seats and the teacher will explain the next activity. The teacher will explain, For our next activity we will move to the computer room where we will pull up pictures of clouds on the internet. The teacher will then line up the students and go to the computer lab where the students will sit on the carpet in front of the SmartBoard. The teacher will pull up FireFox to show the students the process of finding pictures on the internet. The teacher will instruct the students to click on the search engine and type in pictures of clouds, which the teacher will leave up on the SmartBoard to help the students with spelling. The teacher will instruct the students to find no less than three pictures of different clouds and with help print them. The students will be given 15 minutes to find pictures of clouds, while the teacher walks around the room making sure all students are participating. Each child should have a minimum of 3 pictures of different clouds.

V. Culminating Activity: The students, having returned back to their original classroom, will sit at their tables to prepare for the next activity. The teacher will have already placed at their tables the cloud finder key. All needed materials will be on their tables. The teacher will instruct the students to cut out the cloud key wheel. When completed, the teacher will instruct the students to cut out the cloud finder. With help from other adults in the room, the students will be instructed to cut out the small triangles from their cloud key wheel. The teacher and other adults in the room will now go to each table and put the key and the finder together with a fastener. The class will then move outside for the assessment portion of the lesson. VI. Assessment: (Informally) While outside, the teacher will randomly ask children to find certain types of clouds. The students will use their cloud key finder to help them locate the clouds. VII. Modifications: The student who as ADHD will be placed close to the teacher for behavior adjustments. The student with an IEP for a learning disability will work closely with the Special Education Aide who is there to assist him. The student who is gifted will have extra activities at the table to work on in case they finish early. The student with Autism will work closely with their Special Education Teacher who is in the room. VIII. X. Alternate Activities: In case of loss of internet connection, the teacher will have the appropriate magazines available for students to cut pictures of clouds out of. If there is rain or a cloudless day, the teacher will have printed pictures of different types of clouds to assess the students knowledge of clouds.
