Standards:
SS2004(4) 2) Describe cultures, governments, and economies of prehistoric and historic Native Americans in Alabama.

II.

Objectives: a. Students will be able to list characteristics of the Native Americans/Indians b. Students will be able to discuss heroes from Native Americans/Indians c. Students will be able to make an item related to the Native Americans/Indians out of a variety of materials Introductory Activities: a. The teacher will open discussion about the Native Americans/ Indians and talk about characteristics of them b. The teacher will then show various Native Americans/Indians items such as: head dress, teepees, clothing, food, pictures of heroes, pottery, written symbols, and instruments. c. The teacher will use the internet and projector to visit www.bigorrin.org/creek_kids.htm i. The teacher will demonstrate how to navigate around this webpage to find information and pictures of Native American items previously discussed Developmental Activities: a. Students will select any Native Americans/Indians item discussed already and briefly research its use/importance to Native Americans/Indians using www.bigorrin.org/creek_kids.htm b. Students will create any Native Americans/Indians item discussed already out of materials given

Culminating Activities a. Each student will share his/her item with the class and talk about its use/importance to the Native Americans/Indians Assessment (Evaluation of the Days Objectives/Assessing Students Learning): a. Students will be evaluated on their artwork: did they chose an item discussed, did they put forth effort in making the object as accurately as possible b. Students will be evaluated on their presentation of the Native Americans item they created: were they clear in their presentation and did they give accurate information. Modifications for Special Needs (I have a visually impaired student) a. Student will be seated in front of the class b. Student will have a screen magnifier to use for the computer c. Student will not be penalized for small details left off of the project Resources/Materials: a. Model Magic or other type of modeling clay b. Construction paper c. Paint d. Crayons and markers e. Glue f. String and beads g. Access to computer Self-Reflection: a. The teacher will assess the overall outcome of the project including neatness, accuracy, and effort the students applied Alternate Activities: a. Students will research a Native American/Indian hero and write a short report about them b. Students will dress as the hero they researched and share the report with the class
