LESSON STRUCTURE: Time 11.3512.15 Main Content:

IWB show www.learningplace.com.au/sc/online/math to show difference between $1 and $2 coins, how to read the dollar
sign and to read the number before the $. Hold up different coins for the students to identify their value. Then, select students to use a selection of silver coins to make up $1. Then a selection of gold and/or silver coins to make $2. Students also write this as a sum on the IWB. Pose other questions for students to calculate what a selection of coins equal.

Whole class Bingo (stay at desks) Lisa to call out denominations


Hand out Bingo cards to each student (or share one card between 2 if not enough coins to fill each card). Have each desk group select appropriate coins to match their coin pics on their card and place on card.

Money Madness board game -1 x group of 5 people Every player starts with one coin of each of the following coins (5c, 10c, 20c, 50c $1 and $2). Roll the dice and move counter accordingly. When players land on Money Madness spots each player gives their highest value coin to the bank. The first person to the finish wins. Off the Plank. Up the Mast Game 2 x group of 5 people Every player starts with one coin of each of the following: (5c 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2. Roll the dice. If the player lands on the plank or mast square, that player rolls their dice again. If they roll the same or higher number they travel up the mast and all other players give that player their highest value coin. If the player rolls a lower number than their previous roll, they walk the plank down and have to give the next player awaiting their turn their lowest value coin. 1 x group of 9 people Lisa to supervise (Nawasish, Bella, Briti, Kayla, Benjamin, Eileen, Chloe, Sara, Ashley) Money Madness Every player starts with one coin of each of the following: (5c 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2. High needs do: Patience - Match written word to coin or numerical value (ie fifty cents, 50c or 50c coin drawing) Then, if enough coins, Piggy Bank Lisa to say a coin value and the first player to fill their piggy bank with the correct coins wins. Finish with worksheets on calculating deonomination amounts.
