    Marius von Mayenburg was born in Munich, Germany in 1972 and studied old German at university in Munich before moving to Berlin in 1992. He studied playwriting at Hochschule der Künste in Berlin from 1994-1995 and completed a placement at a private theatre in Munich. His first play, Haarmann, was performed in Berlin in 1996 and he became a member of the artistic direction team at a Berlin theatre in 1998. From 1999 to the present, he has worked as the artistic director and playwright in residence at the Schaubuhne theatre in Berlin, where 10 of his plays have been produced.

    Marius von Mayenburg

    1972- Marius was born in Munich, West Germany. 1992- Studied old German at university in Munich before moving to Berlin 1994-Mayenburg began his studies at Hochschule der Knste in Berlin. He studied playwriting during this time. 1995- He completed a placement in the Munchner Kammerspiele, which is a private theatre in Schwabing. 1996- His first play, Haarmann, was first performed at Baracke (Deutsches Theater in Berlin) 1998- He became a member of the artistic direction team at the Baracke. Which is the studio theatre of The Deutsches theatre in Berlin. 1999- Now- He went with Thomas Ostermeier to work as artistic director and playwright in residence at the Schaubuhne theatre in Berlin and he spent the last ten years directing and writing there. He remains the theatres writer in residence and the Schaubuhne has produced 10 of his plays. He has also translated several Shakespeare plays including Hamlet and Othello which Mr Ostermeier directed.
