Yessica Pacheco APES- The Effects of Coyote Removal in Texas A Case Study in Conservation Biology PART I: Answer in Paragraph

Form (Introduction to the Problem) In the following I intend to answer what would happen to the coyotes by removing them, to know what will happen to the ecosystem and the life surrounding them. The experimental treatment that will be used will be to put two similar plots of land, and relocate the coyotes in one. Variables I intend to monitor are the species over life, time and plants as well as the species population. PART I (b): (Introduction to the Environment) DRAW a trophic level pyramid- listing/describing all of the organisms in the food web/ecosystem Coyote
MesoPredators
-Badgers -Bobcats -Skunks -Grey Fox Apex Predator

Scavengers Herbavors
(low level predators) -Jackrabbits -Cottontails -Squirrels -Rodents

Plants
-Grass -Berries -Trees -Flowers - Nuts

PART II: (Experimental Design/Hypothesis) My first prediction concerning the effects of coyote removal on the fauna of west Texas is that the Mesopredators will overpopulate there will be way to many. My second prediction is that the plants will finish because of overpopulation of scavengers and soon they will have nothing else do consume PART III: (Experimentation/Data Analysis) Coyote removal affects the mesopredators. Due to Coyote removal, the mesopredators over populate. There was way too many of them out of nowhere. Due to increase of mesopredators, I predict that the Rodent population will decline. PART IV: (Data Analysis) According to the graph, I predict that the primary factor controlling rodent population growth was the coyote. Due to the changes, I expect that the rodent community will be fighting for resources and will eventually all either decrease dramatically or become extinct.

Yessica Pacheco PART V: (Data Analysis) The competitive success of Ords Kangaroo Rat change in the absence of Coyotes because they decrease if the number of coyotes also decrease. If one population changes the other one does as well, somewhat like a chain reaction. The Ord's kangaroo rat's population is decreasing with out the coyotes. This effects the environmental factors, somehow when the coyotes were there, there was a controlled amount of the Ord's kangaroo rats.
