WRITING TEST SECTION 1: THEORY Filling in the gaps with no more than two words: An essay is a group of paragraphs

written about a single topic (1) and a central main idea (2). It must have at least three (3) paragraphs, but a five-paragraph (4) essay is a common length for academic writing. Introduction (5) is the first paragraph of an essay which gives the general ideas and information about the topic (6), and states (7) the thesis. Unity (23) in writing is the connection of all ideas to a single topic. In an essay, all ideas should relate (24) to the thesis statement, and the supporting ideas (25) in a main body paragraph should relate to the topic sentence. When a text if unified and coherent, the reader can easily understand the main points.
