Assignment 1

1. What are the advantages and limitations of pneumatic system?

2. With the aid of sketches, draw the symbols for valves and indicates its practical
applications in a manufacturing industry
• Pressure regulating valve
• 4/2 directional control valve, double pilot operated
• Quick exhaust valve with silencer
• Time delay valve
• Shuttle valve

3. A cylinder is used to transfer parts from a magazine. If either a pushbutton or a

foot pedal is operated, the cylinder has to extend. Once the cylinder is fully
extended, it is to retract to the initial position. A 3/2 way roller lever valve is to
detect the full extension of the cylinder.
