Causes of the war of 1812 Impressment- act of taking men into a navy by force with or without notice.

Non-Intercourse Act 1809- This Act lifted all embargoes on American shipping except for those bound for British or French ports. The intent was to damage the economies of the Britain and France. Like its predecessor, the Embargo Act, it was mostly ineffective. Macons Bill no. 2- intended to motivate Britain and France to stop seizing American vessels during the Napoleonic Wars. This bill was for the British to stop stealing from the Americans and keep them out of the United States. The law lifted all embargoes with Britain and France. Orders in Council- An Order in Council is a type of legislation in many countries. It was a British law that cut off trade with America, stopping many of the western farm products that were headed for Europe. War Hawks- The group consisted of Democratic-Republicans and were primarily from southern and western states. The War Hawks advocated going to war against Britain for reasons related to the interference of the Royal Navy in American shipping, which the War Hawks believed hurt the American economy and instigated American Indians on the frontier to attack American settlements. Tecumseh & The Prophet- William Henry Harrison, governor of the Indiana Territory attacked Tecumsehs headquarters. Tecumseh was absent, but The Prophet foolishly attacked with the Shawnee Indians. The Shawnee Indians had their houses and land burned, which drove the Indians to British Alliance. William Henry Harrison-Governor of Indiana Territory who attacked Indians and forced them to alliance with British. Republicanism-governing a nation through a republic. If America could not fight to protect itself, the republicanism would fail. Federalists in New England- They wanted to break off from the rest of the colonies and support Britain which created a divide.
