Kassi Looper Philosophy of Education

My Educational Philosophy
I believe that education is the core of every persons success. One day I hope to be the person that many kids look up to and that I can truly make a difference in the life of at least one child. I will be writing over my philosophy of teaching and what I hope to abide by when I become a teacher. I will cover my goals as a teacher, teaching strategies that I will use, what I expect of my students, and the curriculum I believe to be right for the children. It is very important to set a goal for yourself in which you want to achieve them in your career as a teacher. I believe that education has a huge role in our society. My beliefs are that there are three major purposes in education. The first is to give students a real basic foundation of the core subjects so they understand what is and has been going on in the world. The second is to help the students understand their society and environment that they live in. Lastly, is to help the students find interest in the duties and responsibilities that they will have in their lives. All of the purposes above have an overall essence of growth. Helping the children grow into the people they are meant to be and also provide a framework of knowledge for them and then they can be able to collect their own values in life. Education provides children to find the passion in the things they are interested in and the make-up in life including love, choice, freedom, consequences of actions, and many other important aspects things. I believe that the role of the student should be the ways of the progressivism philosophy. The student should be naturally well behaved. Learning should be through discovering and having a hands-on outlook. Students have many responsibilities in the classroom. These

responsibilities include honoring the rules set before them by the instructor, and to respect one another. When teachers provide activities and standards, elementary students should be able to show independence as they move on to older grades. They should learn how to be more independent so that they can fulfill their personal education requirements and be open when teachers teach them. The students role of education should grow as they mature. My teaching philosophy for what the teachers role follows the lines of the progressivism philosophy. This philosophy sets the role of the teacher to develop problem-solving abilities for the students. That school should be a small democracy and give the students basic knowledge to help them do what they want to do. I believe that as the world is ever-changing it is the teachers responsibility to continually teach redefined and rediscovered lessons. The teacher should provide an environment of education that should encourage the growth of free, creative individuality. The teacher should also give many principles and values to help the students understand the things they are learning, encouraging students to examine the principles and values so they can determine whether or not they believe in them. I also believe that teachers should encourage kids to do projects so the students can be guided through problem-solving experiences. The teacher should find creative and fun way to teach the curriculum. I believe in the progressivism philosophy on what the curriculum should consist of. The progressivism philosophy states that curriculum should be centered on the students interest in real problems and interdisciplinary solution seeking. I believe that the curriculum should include teaching students how to manage

different changes through problem solving activities that covers a wide content area including social studies. Many teachers play very important roles in the classroom as well as in the community. Teachers are normally highly respected in the community and though as of role models to the students and the parents. Teachers also can play the role as a mentor because most of teachers have a very nurturing personality like mothers. I believe that cultural growth of the society is due to good teachers that they have had. Teachers can put down a foundation for students that will follow them in their prevailing lives where they will soon be citizens of the society. I will be teaching Kindergarten and at this young age students tend to determine their aims in life and their future plans throughout the consultation with their own teachers. Schools are in a constant state of transformation. I believe that the role teachers play in educational renewal and reform is very important to the philosophy that the teachers have for themselves. I believe that the teachers role for the changes in school reform should be adapting to the changes and finding creative and new ways to teach your students in ways that they truly understand. I know historically teachers have resisted to the changes. But I believe that our government truly wants the best for us and if they choose to change policies, teachers should recognize those changes and try to adapt to them. Writing this philosophy paper really opened my eyes to and showed me that my philosophy that I believe in the most is the progressivism philosophy. I believe in all of the aspects of the progressivism philosophy including the role of the teacher, the teaching strategies, the role of the child, and the curriculum to abide. There may be certain situations where your philosophy may change; however, it is nice to have a philosophy that fits your beliefs and goals.
