EDU 243 Educational Media and Technology

Course Description: EDU 243 is designed to prepare all prospective teachers for effective use of a wide variety of media, instructional materials and technology. Opportunities for practical applications of media and technology, including computers will be provided in relationship to instruction. Writing skills will be emphasized with the completion of research and writing project. Suggested materials: * USB Flash Drive (the bigger the better, we may need to store some video) MoSPE Standards demonstrated by the student completing EDU 243: (6) The entry-level teacher models effective verbal, non-verbal, and media communication techniques with students and parents to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom Quality Indicators(6.1) Verbal and nonverbal communication (6.2) Sensitivity to culture, gender, intellectual and physical differences (6.3) Learner expression in speaking, writing and other media (6.4) Technology and media communication tools General Education Learning Outcome: Students will use technological and analytical skills to gather, evaluate, interpret, and use information. Teacher Education Oral Communication Competency: All students applying for the Teacher Education Program must successfully pass the Oral Communication Skills Assessment. Course Expectations1. Attendance Policy: Attendance is of great importance. Regular attendance shows responsibility and dependability, both of which teachers must exhibit to achieve a lasting career. It is expected that you attend class, participate fully, do not arrive late nor leave early. After 3 unexcused absences your grade will be lowered one letter grade. For each 3 times you are tardy an absence will be recorded. If you enter the classroom after attendance has been taken, it is your responsibility to tell me at the end of class. The only excused absences will be from the campus clinic or the Deans office. In the event you are absent from class, please make arrangements with another classmate to collect documents and information for you.

Grading & Evaluation: All assignments must be completed and turned in by the due date. It is agreed that any assignment that is late will be deducted one whole letter grade each week it is late. It is agreed that students would be allowed to re-submit assignments, make purposeful corrections (except grammar, punctuation and/or spelling) or go into more depth and receive additional points within 1 week of receiving the graded assignment. A: 95-100%, A-:90-94%, B+: 86-89%, B: 83-85%, B-: 80-82%, C+: 76-79%, C: 73-75%, C-: 70-72%, D+: 66-69%, D: 63-65%, D-: 60-62%, F: 59% or less. Cell Phones: It is agreed your cell phones are off while in class.
