RESSASS

REServoir Survey Analysis and Sedimentation Simulation

RESSASS enables engineers to quantify reservoir storage volume reductions due to sedimentation, and the impact of reservoir operating policies on these losses.

Sedimentation is reducing the storage capacity of the world's reservoirs by more than 1% per year. Operators assess capacity losses by routine surveys, and need to maximise the accuracy of volume reductions computed from survey data. They also need to predict the impact of future sedimentation on storage volumes, and the effect of reservoir operating policies in reducing sedimentation rates. RESSASS carries out these computations in a user friendly software package. RESSASS facilities: Volume Analysis maximises the speed and accuracy in undertaking analysis of range line survey data. It uses the Stage Width Modification Method to compute water and sediment volumes, and contains powerful user friendly graphical facilities for data checking and editing. Stage - volume curves and the distribution of sediment deposits through a reservoir are produced. Volume Prediction predicts the impact of future sedimentation on stage capacity curves, using empirical methods requiring minimal input data. It contains simple procedures for setting up and calibrating the model, so it can be used by engineers who are not specialists in flow and sediment modelling. RESSASS will run on a 486 or Pentium PC running Windows 3.1 (or later).
