Anasha Roberts Pd.2 8-14-12 Many people have asked the question Why they should learn algebra?

Jason Gibson thinks people should learn algebra because Algebra is the beginning of a journey that gives you the skills to solve more complex problems. He talks about how you can calculate how fast you would go down a slide based on your weight and the height of the slide. Another thing he talks about is how to calculate how much you have to weigh to exactly balance the see-saw. He also talks about the force of magnets, how long it would take for stuff to hit the ground after dropping it off a roof, and time dilation. While knowing how to solve these things is nice to know, no child wants to figure out how much they need to weigh to see-saw with their friends. They just want to see-saw and ride down slides for fun, no math included. And, I dont know many adults who want to know how the GPS system works in the satellites the police and the military use. Many of them dont care what the police and military are doing with a satellite that needs time dilation. In conclusion, I actually agree with Mr. Gibson, but I think he should have used different examples to appeal to a certain audience rather than all of them.
