Modes of Transportation: Chariots and Horseback Riding The chariot was a light vehicle, usually on two wheels, drawn

by one or more horses, often carrying two standing persons, a driver and a fighter using bow-and-arrow or javelins. The chariot was the supreme military weapon in Eurasia roughly from 1700 BCE to 500 BCE but was also used for hunting purposes and in sporting contests such as the Olympic Games. Back then horses were mostly used for war and not so much for pulling things and doing work. Chariots were the first time that horses were hooked onto buggies. These chariots were mainly invented in Mesopotamia around 2,000 B.C.E and were drawn by horses from the Ural

Mountains. Chariots were a huge milestone on the battlefield and helped bring victory to many civilizations that were at a disadvantage when it

came to man power. Horses were first seen in mans everyday life in cave drawings around 30,000 B.C.E. The earliest time horses were seen in battle was around 5,000 years ago in Eurasia between 5000-4000 B.C.E. Since then they were used in almost every single battle from then on. Horses helped many armies to victory because of their ability to speed in make a quick and strong attack and then run away from their target before they can counter attack. When deployed into battle the horse mounted men are known as cavalry and are normally equipped with a broadsword or, for more skilled horsemen, a bow. In fact calvary has been used for centuries until around World War II.
