The Jewish and the Rise to Christianity

Jewish Origins
The Jewish religion originated in the region of Mesopotamia, which is now modern day Iraq. The Jewish were originally called Israelites after the Jewish patriarch know as Jacob who had also been called Israel. The Israelites were broken up into 12 tribes, which were uni@ied for only a short mount of time under King David and Solomon.

Jewish in Rome
Since the second century BC, Jews had lived within the Roman Empire peacefully. This was until a rebellion in Judaea changed the practice of their faith forever. By the @irst century AD the Jewish had spread a great distance from their homeland, creating many Jewish communities.

Quality of Life in Rome


The Jewish were protected by Romes laws and were aloud to continue there religion undisturbed. This was not surprising considering that the Roman empire would treat anyone they ruled over very well, including civilizations that they had conquered.

The Jewish T emple


Even though each Jewish group had their own place of worship, the temple was their main source. The temple had been destroyed and rebuilt 3 times by different rulers. The temple had different chamber built to withhold different sets of people. Some for the men, some for the women and some for the priests.

Destruction of the T emple

The destruction of the temple completely changed the nature of Judaism. The Jewish had originally paid all of their taxes to the temple and they were now paid to Rome. There is very little remaining of the temple today.

Christianity Rises from Judaism

Christianity as a religion descended directly from Judaism. After Christianity had broken off as its own religion in 30 AD, it was not very well accepted. The new religion had caused many breakouts and rebellions before it had @inally been accepted in most parts of the world. But today it stands as the largest religion worldwide.

The Jewish T oday


As it stands today, the religion of Judaism is not as prominent as it had been 2,000 years ago. In that time Christianity has risen to take the place as most prominent religion. Judaism is practiced by over 14 people in the world today.

Christians T oday
Although not accepted at @irst, Christianity has grown a great deal. It is practiced by over 2 billion people in the world today and is the most accepted religion in almost all countries.
