Business Presentation Project


Using technology to support a presentation can significantly enhance a business leaders effectiveness. Overview This project consists of a PowerPoint presentation and an oral presentation. Students may work individually or in teams of two (2) or three (3). Collaboration on this project is encouraged. Topics 1. You have been asked to give a presentation to a group of small business leaders in your community on how the Affordable Care Acts rules, costs, and tax implications will likely impact their businesses. 2. The administration in your school is concerned about the hazards of texting and driving. You have been given the task to create a presentation on the dangers of texting and driving to present to the senior class. This presentation will be given before the prom and graduation activities. 3. Your company spends a considerable amount of time entertaining clients that frequently involves a luncheon or dinner. You have been asked to create a presentation to for new hires instructing them on proper business etiquette. 4. Your company is increasing doing more business overseas, particularly in China. Understanding the customs of this country is important to your being successful. You have been asked to prepare a presentation on this topic for managers and sales representatives in your company. 5. Social media is becoming an increasingly important tool for marketing products. You have been asked by your company to prepare a presentation for your sales and marketing department on social media and how it can be used in business. 6. More emphasis is being placed in business on being environmentally responsible. You have been asked by your management to prepare a presentation on steps your company could take to be more green and how that would benefit the company and the environment. 7. Independent study: you may create a presentation of another business related topic of your choosing. Alternate Topics You may choose to do an alternate project based on an FBLA competition. If you do you must agree to join FBLA and represent JFK at the District Leadership Conference. If you do you will receive special help and coaching on the project. This will also take the place of the final exam in the class. Design Cycle Journal You must complete a design cycle journal for the project. Written Report Your project must include a written report not to exceed 3 pages. You must follow the FBLA Format Guide guidelines for a report. You must use Arial font, 12 pt., normal

spacing. Content Guidelines Define and describe the problem. Provide data and statistics to support the definition Offer potential solutions for the problem Describe a plan of action Production Guidelines There is no minimum or maximum number of slides. The number must be appropriate for a 6 minute business presentation. The following elements should be evident: o Varied, legible and appropriate text. Grammar and spelling count. o Consistent background theme. o Appropriate and clear graphics and images. o Appropriate transitions and animations. o Presentation notes. o Hyperlink(s), charts/graphs. o Appropriate video and/or audio clips are encouraged. Follow the guidelines for PowerPoint Design presented in class and posted on mrclayton.org) Performance Guidelines The participant must use a PowerPoint program or Prezi as an aid in delivering the business presentation. Individuals or team members must perform all aspects of the presentation. The individual or team has seven (7) minutes to deliver the presentation. All team members must actively participate in the presentation. Visual aids and samples specifically related to the project may be used in the presentation A timekeeper will stand at six (6) minutes and again at seven (7) minutes. When the presentation is finished, the timekeeper will record the time used, noting a point deduction for any presentation over seven (7) minutes. Following each presentation, judges may conduct a three (3) minute questionanswer period.
