Calculating Maximum Well Head Injection Pressure Fracture?

Check Well history

Instantaneous Shut in Pressure (ISIP) [kPa]

Use ISIP1 (from mini-frac) if available

(ISIP+PHyd) x 0.9

(Use Bottom Hole ISIP and 10% Factor of Safety) Subtract

Hydrostatic Pressure (PHyd) [kPa]

PHyd = gH/1000

or

PHyd = H x (Salt Water Pressure Gradient)

Height (H) = True Vertical Depth (TVD) -units [mcf] = 1070 [kg/m3] g = 9.81 [m/s2] Salt Water Pressure Gradient = 10.5 [kPa/m] Add

Frictional Pressure Loss (PFriction) [kPa]

PFriction = MD x (Frictional Pressure Gradient)
MD = Measured Depth [m] Use chart to find Frictional Pressure Gradient with the known pipe diameter and volume flow rate.

PWellhead = [P(ISIP) x (0.9)] PHyd + PFriction

Other Notes:

Compare values to other wells in area/formation for anomalies; recommended that a representative area be sampled to ensure an erroneous value is not used. o completion reports o fracture gradient database and contour mapping. Check well history to determine if a fracture stimulation has been conducted on the well in question. Injectivity tests conducted on wells that have had fracture treatments are deemed questionable as it is inferred that the conductivity of the fracture distorts the results.
