FUTURESHOCK PREVIEW FOR 9/4/00

Thursday 2nd March 2000, South Nightclub. A bald, shadowy figure picks his way through the crowd who are grooving to punchy jazz-fonk from an as yet unnamed band. The identity of the figure remains a mystery and sections of the crowd huddle together, discussing who it could possibly be. Someone mentions Nosefratu, we giggle nervously and fix our gaze on the DJ OJ booth where some minutes later ... ex-Hacienda and famed Galaxy Jock Graeme Park materialises and drops a brief set of original disco cuts. Welcome to "Shock Of The New" where promoters Zero One want you to turn up with no idea as to who's playing (the live acidic jazz vibes were courtesy of the appropriately named FutureShock, by the way). 01 aim to buck the trend of Names, Names, Names, Nam,esand offer a night where the main attraction doesn't appear on huge posters and in the press, but rather ,'plays second fiddle to the tne event itself, a policy which allows the stars to play the tunes that.have made them what they are as opposed to what they cane at their more regular bookings. Furthermore they will be showcasing up and coming acts plus , utilising South as exhibition space for artists each session. The only constants in this multi-media merry-go-round are resident DJs lain Taylor (Bar Cuba, Macclesfield), Alix (Flux Magazine) and art-director Simon Pantling, anything else is . uncertain. If you club without prejudice and are up for a few suprises than stick your head round the door, who knows what's lurking there ...
