When Sardinia Meets Chile

Cristiano Porqueddu
Diptico de la Oscuridad (Tribute to Pablo Neruda) Guitar Brben 2011 pp.11 With its Diptico de la Oscuridad Cristiano Porqueddu signs another challenging job from both a conceptual and technical point of view. As can be gathered by subtitles -EI lejano taido and La maana llena de tempestad the work comes from the feelings aroused in the Sardinian guitarist and composer from poems by Chilean artist Pablo Neruda. Once again the dramatic and "stormy" characters of the compositions created by Porqueddu is expressed through a compositional technique that, through both fixed intervals and structural dissonance, provides him the ideal tools to express his musical thought. Of great intensity - and also rather complex in terms of execution - it is the first piece that consists of a pedal chord accompanied by a diaphanous melody which give the piece its dramatic intensity. Also the second part of the diptych is based on a broken chord that, unlike the first, is left and then again taken. Despite the title, the character of the second piece is much less dramatic, but still carries a great emotional impact. A really great job.
