About Indian Railways _____________________ Indian Railways, abbreviated as IR, is a Department of the Government of India, under the Ministry of Railways, and is tasked with operating the rail network in India. The Ministry is headed by a cabinet rank Railways Minister, while the De partment is managed by the Railway Board. Indian Railways is not a private corpo rate body; however, of late IR has been trying to adopt a corporate management s tyle. Indian Railways has a total state monopoly on India's rail transport. It is one of the largest and busiest rail networks in the world, transporting sixteen mill ion passengers and more than one million tonnes of freight daily.IR is the world 's largest commercial or utility employer, with more than 1.6 million employees, and is second to the Chinese Army in highest number of employees. The railways traverse the length and breadth of the country; the routes cover a total length of 63,140 km (39,233 miles). As of 2002, IR owned a total of 216,71 7 wagons, 39,263 coaches and 7,739 locomotives and ran a total of 14,444 trains daily, including about 8,702 passenger trains. Railways were first introduced to India in 1853. By 1947, the year of India's in dependence, there were forty-two rail systems. In 1951 the systems were national ized as one unit, becoming one of the largest networks in the world. Indian Rail ways operates both long distance and suburban rail systems. Synopsis _________ The Mumbai-Amritsar Route is approximately 1800kms long with major stations like Mumbai Central,Surat,Vadodara,Ratlam,Kota,Mathura,Hazrat Nizammudin,New Delhi,A mbala Cantt.,Rajpura Jn, Ludhiana Jn, Jalandhar City, & Amritsar Jn etc. The Ambala Kalka Secion has Chandigarh & Kalka stations. The Bhopal-New Delhi Route has imp stations such as Bina,Jhansi,Gwalior,Agra Can tt,Mathura & New Delhi. The route has been extended till Itarsi Jn. The Route between Mumbai & New Delhi is one the most important route in the Indi an Railways Network.The Passenger as well as Freight Traffic is very high.Large

number of important trains run between New Delhi & Mumbai, some of them are Mumb ai-New Delhi Rajdhani,Mum-Nizam August Kranti Exp,Swaraj Exp,Golden Temple Mail etc. To summarise, The Route includes the following sections :1.Mumbai-New Delhi Mainline 2.New Delhi- Amritsar Mainline 3.Mumbai-Ahmedabad Mainline 4.New Delhi-Itarsi Mainline 5.New Delhi-Kalka MainLine The extension from Ambala to Amritsar is a Punjab Exclusive Route.Most of track passes through Rich Punjab Fertile Soil. Three important urban centres covered a re Ludhiana ,Jalandhar & Amritsar.The new version also included Itarsi Jn which is an important Juntion for WCR & CR! I have rebuit Mathura Jn but it is still damaged.***Attention Activity makers!!* ** Please do not use the through line in MTJ (NDLS AGC Section).Please use the l oop line.Also the speed limits have issues,please follow the onscreen instructio ns or use your own discretion while driving. I have included Old Delhi Station off Sadar Bazar because many trains ply to/fro m that terminus as well.
