Without the Nile River, the Egyptian civilization would have never been built. Greek Historian, Herodotus, said that the Mesopotamian civilization was the Gift of the Nile. Egyptians had a hard time farming because the Nile never flooded, so the land was not fertile. Egyptians built canals to manage the unpredictable Nile River. There were many roads in Egypt because the Nile River provided terrible transportation. Egyptians made paper out of a plant called papyrus. Which was easier to write on than clay tablets. Egyptians did not believe in the afterlife. Egyptians built pyramids for their kings, or pharaohs. These pyramids were a palace for the king to spend his afterlife.

god, Horus. A pharaohs only role was religious leader, he had no role in the government. The common people of Egypt, had to worship their gods in buildings outside of the temples, as only priests were allowed inside the temple. Many homes had a private, smaller shrine to their gods, where families worshiped and honored the spirits of dead family members. Families always buried their dead in pyramids. Mummification was a process performed to help preserve the dead so they would live more comfortably in the afterlife. Egyptians believed in a simple burial, and had no rituals to send their loved ones on to the afterlife. Conclusion(s): Use complete sentences to summarize the article you just read.
