A. (Question) How many of you are involved or where involved in sports or extra curricular activity? (Response) Chances are that sport or activity has shaped you into a better person in some way shape or form B. Personal experience 1. Growing up I tend to get in a lot of trouble at school and with the police. By my junior year I was told that if I didnt improve my behavior then I could kiss college athletics goodbyeso I straightened up C. B. Being involved in a Team or Club 1. Builds Friendships Surrounded by these people every day Ex) share common interests hating coach/conditioning Learn a lot about each other

Teaches leadership/ Commitment roles Captains Upper classmen If your not contributing in game, you still have a roll (Hype man, practice player, see whats going on off field) Teens learn about long term commitments when they are involved in extracurricular activities as well, which is another excellent benefit. C. Keeps You Active 1. Certain sports / clubs teach certain skills Basketball- Lacrosse (picks, screens) Hockey- Lacrosse (transition play, physical aspect) Football Lacrosse (Hitting, quick feet, hand eye) Debate team- make you a more confident person 2. Keeps you in Shape/ Occupied Healthier person Quote takes months to get in shape, takes days to loose it Helps prevent injuries Prepares you for the next season

Helps you from going down wrong path To much free time can lead to bad decisions, hanging out with wrong crowd Keeps you focused on sport, less time to mess around with drugs and alcohol In Study by University of Michigans Philip Veliz showed that If sports participation rates increase by 10%, serious crime incident and suspension rates would each drop

III. Conclusion A. There are many ways being apart of a team, or a family like atmosphere can bring out the best in a person, and if you let those opportunities pass by you may never be able to experience them again.

B. Sports have helped save my life and are a huge part of who I am and what Ive accomplished, I know that have made me a better person, and they being involved with a team or organization can bring out very positive things in everyone.

C. Whether a team or club had is already a big part of your life encourage others to join something, and if not consider what type of lifestyle you want youre kids to live (if you plan on having kids) because participant in multiple sports or extra curricular activities while growing up can make you a better overall athlete and person.
