POFT 1325 - Syllabus

Business Math and Machine Applications


Instructor: Amy Herring
SCH (3-1) POFT 1325

Course Description Student will develop skill in the use of the electronic calculator and
business mathematical functions. Emphasis will be placed on
business problem solving. The student will utilize basic math skills
and apply these skills to solve business application problems.

Prerequisite: None

Text and Supplies 1. Office Machines with Excel Applications, 6th Edition by Jimmy C.
McKenzie and Robert J. Hughes. ISBN: 0-13-048688-4. Prentice
Hall.

2. I will have some calculators to let you use in class, but for homework
you might need a calculator with the following capabilities: The keys
Plus (+), Total, Add-mode, Clear (C), Clear Entry (CE), Minus (-),
Non-Add (#, N, NA, or Non-add), Subtotal (S, ST, Sub, Subtotal, or
diamond), Times (X), Equal (=), Percent (%), Memory (M, MR, CM
or MC), Enter-dividend (÷), Round-off switch (usually shown as 5/4),
Decimal place setting (F,1,2,3,4 switch). If the student has a
calculator classified as “10-Key”, additional features will be available
(e.g., M+, M-, GT).
