ALARP and SFAIRP are risk assessment terms used to describe a duty to reduce risk. They require that residual risk is as low as reasonably possible, taking into account the cost and effort required to reduce the risk further versus the benefit gained. Both terms mean that all reasonably practicable measures must be taken to reduce risk, even if it is not possible to reduce the risk completely.
