Since you understand the core processes for the Quality Management System (QMS); it might be worth basing

the requirements for the EMS from these same processes. What we did was to identify the core processes for the orporation! which became the QMS processes. "or us this was a flow chart that listed the processes in the order of their sequences and how they flowed. "rom this point we originally identified all significant legal requirements for each process for quality. We then identified all significant non# regulatory requirements! which were mainly customer#specific requirements to ma$e sure they were all co%ered. "rom here we identified the significant en%ironmental! and health and safety legal requirements for each process identified for the QMS. We grouped the En%ironmental processes in the section for &'nfrastructure(. )he *ealth + Safety processes were grouped in the section &Wor$ En%ironment(. "or us the ,significant, legal requirements were those with the highest le%el of ris$ to the en%ironment (internal and e-ternal en%ironment); the highest le%el of ris$ to an indi%idual(s health + safety; or the highest monetary . that would ha%e to be paid out if something were to happen or if an inspector wal$ed through the door for an unannounced inspection and found us to be non#compliant. Some of these costs are e-cessi%e for each noncompliance. /fter this we documented specific en%ironmental and0or h+s mandates into current procedures where%er possible. 1astly we de%eloped new procedures to address the legal requirements! aspects! impacts! their significance; ha2ards and ris$s! to determine any additional controls required. /s the final portion we %erified the requirements of what we implemented against the 'S3 45664 and 3*S/S 47664 to determine any gaps! which we then corrected. We now impro%e upon all the requirements as part of our continual impro%ement.
