PREMET
PREMET software offers several diagrams to analyse combustion and pressure changes in the cylinders. By using the cursor it is possible to move along any curve and to receive the exact measured values shown in the table. A series of measurements is comparable to any other series of measurements without any restrictions. The PREMET software includes a compression program to send data files per e-mail or satellite fast and effectively.
NEW! The PREMET indicators now have even higher resolution and feature an optional vibration diagram. In order to measure vibration an ACL-sensor (acceleration sensor measuring the transfer of energy within and through a conductor) is needed. A vibration diagram displaying valve opening, combustion and valve closing is provided to ease identifying of malfunctions. Some common problems like broken piston rings, liners or valves can easily be indicated.

P R E M E T o n l i n e a p e r m a n e n t l y i n s t a l l e d s y s t e m t o c o n t ro l e n g i n e p e r f o r m a n c e Online measurement LEMAG PREMET online is a permanently installed system developed for measurement of cylinder pressure on diesel and gas engines. In this system each cylinder is equipped with a LEMAG PREMET Pressure Sensor. The sensors are attached to the existing indicator valves and they all measuring the cylinder pressure at the same time. This online information is then transmitted to a central computer for analysis. It is also possible to mount the Pressure Sensors directly in the indicator channels. In this case it is necessary to consult LEHMANN & MICHELS for technical details. For crankshaft angle measurement it is recommended to use LEMAG Multiscan Sensor (MS-Sensor). The MS-sensor is a crank angle sensor custom manufactured according to each special shaft diameter for easy installation. The MS-sensor produces a signal 360 times per revolution. This 1 degree crank angle resolution enables perfect recording and compensation for the changing angular velocities of the engine. The cylinder pressure values are then transmitted to the LEMAG Engine Information Sampling Unit. This calculator verifies the plausibility of the measured values and relates the pressure values to the current crankshaft position. After transmission of this data to the PC, all major indicators of engine performance can be analysed easily on the computer screen. The LEMAG PREMET online monitors:

The drawing shows an example system arrangement for a six cylinder main engine. The Multiscan Sensor Wheel and the MS-Sensor are pictured on the left side of the engine.
PREMET Multiscan Sensor Wheel The MS-Sensor measures crankshaft rotation in 1 steps. The information is further analysed by the software of the engine sampling unit. The advantage to tooth profile resolution on the flywheel is more direct recording of engine angular velocities. Expenditure on installation is minimised by manufacturing the MS-Sensor Wheel according to the shafts diameter. Drilling of the flywheel or shaft for installation is not necessary.
The picture shows the torsional vibration pattern of the crankshaft during 720 (two complete revolutions).
The limits to measure torsional vibration change can be individually defined in the software.
The system warns automatically if the vibration change exceeds the given limits.

The information gathered from the pressure sensors is collected by the PREMET engine sampling unit to be further analysed by PREMET online software. This software gives you a wide variety of diagrams delivering important and accurate information relating to the engines performance. By using PREMET online you are now in a position to recognise the most common problems on diesel and gas engines before they cause major break downs, expensive repairs or time schedule delays. After a brief look at the PC screen you are in most cases able to tell immediately why the engine, or some of its cylinders, are not producing the expected power.

Correct and reliable connection of the indicator to the engine is a basic requirement for accurate measurement. This can only be achieved by using the right indicator valves between the engine and the indicator. The indicator valves are available with two-part spring loaded spindles or alternatively with servo-operated spindles. Both types are equipped with a back seat. The valve can be opened and closed in all temperatures without using brute force. The spring loading of the indicator valve spindle cone prevents any unwanted opening of the valve, even by unfavorable vibration frequencies. Therefore a counter nut on the spindle is not necessary.

Peak Pressure Indicator Type LS

LEMAG LS Peak Pressure Indicators are measuring the firing pressure of internal-combustion engines. In order to be free of residues, the indicator valve should be shortly blown through before starting the measurement. To take readings the instrument has to be connected to the indicator valve by means of a standarized connecting nut.

The LEMAG- LS Peak Pressure Indicator is now ready for use. When the indicator valve is open the pressure gauge will rise and will remain on the maximum. By notice this value, this indicator valve must be closed and the instrument has to be reseted by using the vent screw fixed at the side. After that, the LEMAG LS is ready for taking new readings.
LEMAG LS Peak Pressure Indicators are designed for single measurements
only (not for continuous operation). The respective measuring period should not exceed 30 sec. This is not a problem in normal practise, as peak pressure is being indicated after 5 sec. Remarks for order:

LEMAG PEAK mag Indicators measure the maximal firing pressure of internal combustion engines. The measurement: The indicator valve should be blown through briefly before starting the measurement to make sure there are no residues. Connect the indicator on the appropriate cylinder and open the associated indicator valve.
The maximum pressure can now be read on the gauge. After measurement close the indicator valve. The indicator has to be vented using the vent screw fitted before the next measurement. Please, note that the measuring period should never exceed 30 seconds per cylinder. In normal practice a peak pressure is indicated after 5 seconds measuring time.

The LEMAG DELTA-PREMET is designed to measure cylinder pressure drop to highlight worn valves and piston rings at a very early stage. This is achieved by measuring the individual pressure drop of each cylinder. It is a simple, convenient check and can prevent major damage to the engine. NOTE: The instrument is for use on engines that are not running. How to measure: Stop the engine and open all indicator cocks. Turn the engine into firing TDCposition and connect the DELTA-PREMET to the relevant cylinder. Make sure to lock the engine in this position. Inject compressed air through the DELTA-PREMET into the cylinder up to 6 bar (max.). Close the ball valve on the instrument and measure the time taken for the pressure to fall to 1 bar (using the stop watch included). Repeat these steps for the next cylinder. In the case of an unexpected pressure drop turn the engine by 720 to release the residues from the valve seats.
Please ensure that the DELTA-PREMET is not subjected to more that 9 bar during the measurement. The Instrument is equipped with a high quality stainless steel safety pressure gauge. In case of an over pressure due to incorrect handling the instrument includes a replaceable bursting disc to protect the user and the instrument. For safety reasons it is recommended that any replacement of a disc be undertaken by Lehmann & Michels GmbH & Co. KG.

The LEMAG High Speed Indicator Type 25-M is used in cases where the speed of the engine is too high or the pressure rise is too steep for engine indicators type 30-M or type 50-M. Due to its special construction it is possible to prepare diagrams for engines which are running at high speed. The extended pressure area allows measurements to be taken on engines up to 220 bar maximum pressure without having to chance the piston and cylinder.
Five different springs are available which cover the complete range of pressures. The LEMAG High Speed Indicator is supplied in a wooden box complete with all necessary fittings and one measuring spring of your choice. Other springs can be ordered at extra cost.

The standard instrument is equipped with a 30 mm diameter paper drum, on request a 40 mm drum is available.

TEMPmag 60Ms low weight and compact design makes the calibrator ideal for on site calibration on ships. Temperature calibration The dry block principle excludes the use of oil or other liquids. Heating of liquids is not needed. A metal dry block with various diameters ensures thermal contact to the sensor being tested.
Simply place the sensor to be calibrated in the TEMPmag 60M calibrator well. Set the temperature. When stabilisation occurs simply read the true temperature from the calibrator and recalibrate the sensor or system accordingly. Each calibrator is calibrated against precision equipment, which is according to national standards. Calibration certificate is supplied with each unit.

Temperature calibration The dry block principle excludes the use of oil or other liquids. Heating of liquids is not needed. The construction is based on a proven rugged temperature well controlled by special designed controller. The internal microprocessor changes the controller parameters depending of the set point and temperature of the internal sensor. The values are shown at the internal LCD display with a resolution of 0,1 C.
Interchangeable insertion tubes (optional) with various diameters ensure thermal contact to the sensor being tested. The unit is equipped with an RS-232 serial interface and can easily be connected to a PC to allow automatic calibration. Each calibrator is calibrated against precision equipment, which is according to national standards. Calibration certificate is supplied with each unit.

This device is developed for use at test benches to collect all aerosols produced when testing fuel injection valves on shore and onboard vessels. It replaces the connection to the ships existing ventilation system. The device functions as a closed unit, and uses recirculation of the air. Oil aerosols are effectively sucked out in the transparent acrylic
container by using a vacuum. The aerosols are saturated and collected for draining and recycling in the filter.
