EARTHQUAKES

I S A B E L L A , H U G O , R A FA E L

WHAT HAPPENS INSIDE THE EARTH THAT PROVOKES AN EARTHQUAKE?

Collisional
When two continental plates go against each other

By time it can make a tall mountain

TRANSFORM BOUNDARY

When two continental plates slide one next to the other One plate goes left and the other goes right It creates a fault

DIVERGENT BOUNDARY

When two oceanic plates separate and magma comes up Creates new ocean land

CONVERGENT BOUNDARY

When an oceanic plate and a continental go against each other The oceanic plate has more weight eventually it goes under the continental plate

WHAT PHYSICAL CHANGES DO EARTHQUAKES CAUSE?

Earthquakes can collapse buildings Can kill people and animals Break objects

Injure people and animals

Make trees fall

WHAT POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE RESULTS CAN EARTHQUAKES DO?

Positive: People learn things about earthquakes People experience it, small ones, big ones

Make new islands when a piece of land breaks in the ocean and that piece goes up to the surface.
Negative: Things collapse and fall

Kill things
Break things Make a hole in the ground

HOW CAN WE IMPROVE SURVIVAL IN AN EARTHQUAKE

Building buildings that are earthquake proof That every school should practice in case an earthquake happens

POD CAST

HOW DO WE RESPOND TO AN EARTHQUAKE?

If there is a earthquake here in Lima what will we do, how would we respond? At my school here in Lima if there is an earthquake we have to go down to a place that there isnt stuff that can fall on us

INTERESTING FACTS
The largest recorded earthquake in the world was a magnitude 9.5 in Chile on May 22, 1960. The first pendulum seismoscope to measure the shaking of the ground during an earthquake was developed in 1751, and it wasnt until 1855 that faults were recognized as the source of earthquakes. Moonquakes (earthquakes on the moon) do occur, but they happen less frequently and have smaller magnitudes than earthquakes on the Earth. It appears they are related to the tidal stresses associated with the varying distance between the Earth and Moon. They also occur at great depth, about halfway between the surface and the center of the moon.
