no 4, 2005 ASPECTS CONCERNING PHARMACEUTICAL WEIGHTS UTILISATION IN TRANSILVANIA DURING THE XVIIth XIXth CENTURIES
Assoc Prof. Liliana Rogozea, MD, PhD Faculty of Medicine, Transilvania University Brasov Knowing more about the use of pharmaceutical weights in Transilvania is important for a better knowledge of the evolution of pharmacology in that part of Romania. This study is useful for a more responsible analysis of pharmaceutical activity in Transilvania. In that time, the using of pharmaceutical weights in Transilvania was in concordance with the European evolution of pharmacy. A special system of weights was used in that time in Ardeal, known as medical weights of Nuremberg, which was later replaced by the Viennese and metric system. Better knowing of the old pharmaceutical weights system also requires the understanding of political, economic and financial aspects of that time, and proofs supporting Transilvanian pharmacology connections with other nations pharmacology. Even connecting the history of a small country like Romania with the history of the region or merely with the history of human being could be a delicate issue it is important to understand what Vasile Parvan used to say: The historical attitude give living shape, legible, sociable, rationale to the human being, becoming under all the aspect and thoughts, makes from the history the self conscience of Humanity.
