The B2R will be sponsored by the terrific I LOVE TO READ Committee and the support of the participating teachers from PS, HS, Kinder thru Fifth grades. The committee advisors, Ms. Torres, School Librarian, Ms. Bernardo, Rm. 42, Mrs. Dobrowolski, Rm. 25, Ms Ponce, Rm. 33 and its B2R Officers will honor the Binadu students who achieve these goals. GUIDELINES B2R members must read, at least, one book per day. Books read to or with children by their parents or other family members may count for the following: B2R members who are non-readers and reluctant readers B2R members who have English as their second language AND are unable to independently read the books at their required reading level The books that are read should be in addition to the regular curriculum. If not, then the following books are the accepted reading materials: Picture novels or manga, a Japanese graphic novel, can be read and counted, but must be as a completed series of volumes. Online books must meet scholastic standards (should be published from a recognized institution). Books should not indicate violent plots, vulgar language, or obscene text.

B2R members must read, at least, at their expected reading level. The following are the general standard for reading books at the grade level: For Pre-school and Headstart: Read-alouds as well as poems, songs and rhymes to teach topics across all subjects. For Kindergarten and 1st grade: Read-alouds as well as alphabet books, picture books, easy books, poems, songs and rhymes to teach topics across all subjects. For 2nd grade: Read-alouds as well as alphabet books, picture books, easy books, poems, songs and rhymes to teach topics across all subjects. B2R members in this grade level are also able to make up their own version of the story that they have had read. They can change the details such as setting, time, or even a new ending. If they choose to do so, then the fantasy-based story should also be turned in. Lastly, they are highly encouraged to read fiction books. For 3rd grade: Read-alouds as well as alphabet books, picture books, easy books, poems, songs and rhymes to teach topics across all subjects. A separate sheet of paper that should be provided by the B2R members will indicate a list of words that he/she comes across that is unknown to them. From there, the B2R members will also illustrate those meaning of the words. B2R members in this grade level are highly encouraged to read chapter books, nonfiction, and fiction books. For 4th grade: Read-alouds that demonstrate students strategies for thinking and analyzing what they have been read to. A separate sheet of paper that provides these critical thinking (i.e., making connections between people, events, or important ideas) should be provided by the B2R members. B2R members in this grade level are highly encouraged to read chapter books, non-fiction, and fiction books. For 5th grade: Reads a variety of genres from fiction, non-fiction, and drama. After the B2R members have had finished a book, we recommend that they choose another book by the same author; by the similar topic; or in the same genre. Next, the B2R members should write on a separate sheet of paper that writes of the comparison between the books that they have had read.

Forms must be turned in within a week of completion or by their due dates wherein the B2R members will send it to their respective teacher. Next, those respective teachers should sign and verify the form before sending it to the librarian. In that way, the reading progression can be tabulated as feasible as possible.
REWARDS At Level 1, the B2R members will have their names posted on a special BINADU BRILLIANT
READERs Exhibit Board to be placed along the hallway of the Library Media Center (LMC). This will continue throughout the year no deadlines to meet.
At Level 2, the B2R members are rewarded with a special B2R caps, I Love To Read pencils or a B2R
shirts. B2R Forms must be submitted before January 31, 2014.
At Level 3, the Top Ten B2R members for each grade level for the entire year will receive a
certificate and recognition at the End of the Year Awards ceremony. In addition, the Top Three B2R members for overall will receive a special certificate and recognition at the End of the Year Awards ceremony. B2R Forms must be submitted before May 9, 2014. Here are the goal points per each level:
*Each 10 points indicate that the B2R members have had read 25 books.
