AUCKLAND WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL VISION STATEMENT

OBJECTIVE: To promote and encourage participation in the sport of wheelchair basketball. AN IMPORTANT SPORTING QUESTION TO ASK OURSELVES How can we strengthen the health and development of Auckland Wheelchair Basketball? MODEL THE WAY: People who model the way will have the following characteristics and values: Show enthusiasm about the sport. This is shown in their attendance, timeliness, & sense of fair play. Share the responsibilities of managing the resources and tasks of running the club. Contribute financially. Bring a professional approach to the team sport and build relationships that support each other both on and off the court.

UNDERSTANDING WORKING TOGETHER The process of aligning values may be a difficult process for some, but the overriding purpose is to achieve success. Rules are boundaries which help achieve the goal of sporting and recreational success. However, the primary focus is on the values that inspire us as a team and not on how to test the boundaries as individuals. We must all play by the rules. INSPIRE A SHARED VISION We all have a shared vision of the future of the club which includes the improvement of players with their skills, fitness, endurance and participation in the club. CHALLENGE THE PROCESS We will continue to evaluate the successes and lost opportunities to enable better planning and management of the clubs resources. ENABLE OTHERS TO ACT We will provide an environment that enables team members to strengthen their character, skills, self-determination and the development of competency within wheelchair basketball. ENCOURAGING EACH OTHER We will use the buddy system (where an elite player is paired with a development player) to provide support so that players can achieve their expectations of progressing in wheelchair basketball.

COMMUNICATION We will always speak politely & truthfully to team members, officials, referees, coaches, and competitors. Profanity, rudeness, sarcasm, or gossip is not acceptable. Respect for all people must be shown at all times. If we upset anyone, we apologize first and then work on a solution. If someone upsets us, we will tell them immediately and collectively find time to formulate how we will negotiate through the upset / conflict. That change may require certain individuals to change, or all of us as a team to change. JOY Basketball is a sport to be enjoyed and appreciated. We will focus on the positive, speak kindly to all, evaluate facts, share feelings and fears with the appropriate people and help ourselves to be happier, healthier, better people. We are grateful for the people we share basketball with, be they players or support people and we will show that appreciation to them.
