Area of Mastery: Management and Implementation Title of Artifact: Networking (Prezi) This Prezi was developed for ETT

573: IT Facilities. The purpose of this assignment was to combine the knowledge gained during the course to demonstrate best practice in the area of networking, specifically, school facilities, network facilities, and infrastructure. This artifact demonstrates my ability to manage resources and networking infrastructure. Our group worked on the development of this presentation during face-toface meetings, and occasionally worked on specific components individually between meetings. The final product includes a logical network diagram, physical layout with electrical components, and a physical network diagram. Specific sections were developed by the group member noted in parentheses: diagram of the physical layout (Mike Sinde), gliffy of the physical network (Chris Burken), the logical network table and the Prezi, complete with pictures of our ideal Gottalern Academy (Dee Dee Aldrich, Lynnea Urbanowicz, and me). We consulted with our district director of technology to review our own districts physical and logical plans to be able to see and gain a better understanding of how the plans are used in the field. Upon completion of this project, we had a true blueprint of the networking functions that make use of the Internet possible in a school setting. The assignment greatly impacted my learning and understanding of how networks function and the many components (Local Area Networks, Wireless Access Points, cables, etc.) that make computer and Internet access possible in a school setting. Additionally, the construction of a school, such as our model,

Gottalern Academy, would impact student learning in several ways. One important impact is providing adequate wireless access for all staff and students, thus making it possible to integrate the use of the Internet during instruction and learning. Another component of this design that would impact student learning is the layout of the building itself. By grouping grade levels together, students in 6 th grade, for example, will have more interaction with the the many teachers they meet with each day. This frequent interaction will help students to develop stronger connections with their teachers.
