Angela Hutchinson EDUC 101-21K Introduction to Teaching Karla Henderson My Autobiography My name is Angela Laverne Hutchinson, and I was

s born July 20, 1974 at Kings Daughters Hospital, in Madison, Indiana. I was named after my late grandmother Melba Laverne Lovins. My parents are Richard and Anita Hamilton of Bennington, Indiana and this is where I was raised. I am the oldest of three children, and I currently live in Canaan, Indiana with my husband Carl and my daughter Danielle. My family also consists of my eighteen year old son Dustin, and four step-children Robert, Haley, Elizabeth, and Logan. I graduated high school in 1992 from Switzerland County High School in Vevay, Indiana. I also attended the Southeastern Career Center my senior year, in Versailles, Indiana, where I received a degree in cosmetology. During my high school years, I received perfect attendance almost every year and was nominated for Outstanding Student in my cosmetology class. I was on the English and Art academic team during my junior year and was also involved in SADD, FHA, and an usherette during basketball games. Recently, I decided to continue my education at Ivy Tech Community College to pursue a degree in Elementary Education after teaching preschool for the past seven years. During my school-age years, I struggled with reading and problem solving in math. I was shy and had trouble making friends, because I was behind in my educational skills. Being made fun of brought down my self-esteem and started making things worse, even at home. My father would yell at me because I could not pronounce a word right, and it took me hours to read a simple book. I was finally put in a special reading program, where I was diagnosed with dyslexia. It didnt help me much because I continued to struggle throughout my elementary

school years. My grades were not good and I constantly got in trouble at home, but I really tried hard and still lagged behind. When I reached the Jr/Sr high, I began a new journey in learning. Although, learning was still difficult, I had teachers that really helped me with my difficult areas. By the eighth grade, English became my strong subject after many years of not getting it, although, art was my favorite subject throughout elementary and secondary school years. By my junior year, I was learning how to cope with my disability; I knew that learning didnt come easy for me, and I had to apply myself more that my classmates. After my struggles, the second semester of my junior year I received the Number 1 Student award for my grade. Now, I enjoy reading and learning new things. Life has handed me many challenges during my adult years. On February 20, 2011, I married my high school sweetheart, after three failed marriages. I was reluctant about getting married because of my past history, but after six years of being together we decided it was time to do what was right in the eyes of God. Our family attends Milton Christian Church, in Milton, Kentucky, where we have worshiped for the past two years. Since we have been married, our lives have taken a turn for the better. My husband received a full-time position at Arvin Sango, I decided to attend college, and our large family was given a van to haul all of our children. In October 2011, our family was accepted by Habitat for Humanity to build a house, in Hanover, Indiana. I can honestly say my life has completely changed, and I have been truly blessed, although, I still have many trials in my life I am extremely happy. My friends consist of my church family because this is where I spend most of my time when I am not working with my family, or attending school. By the year 2022, I plan on having a degree in Elementary Education and a great job working with children. I will still be married to my husband and have all of our children graduated from

high school and some attending college. Becoming a foster parent has always been a dream of mine, once my children are grown. I really love being around children; it makes me feel like I can make a difference in someone elses life.
