Conduct individual professional development needs assessment and group assessment of organizational needs

Certified in Program Assessment at SU; Use program assessment strategies for the Alumni-Student Mentorship Program specifically focusing on the year the program was piloted to determine if the program met the needs of the students.

I have a passion for working with assessment and for leading this mentoring program. I want to continue to become more knowledgeable in this area to become a more effective leader and to allow this program to strive and continue to grow, with or without me. The assessment certification class was helpful but I feel I would benefit from taking another course in this area. I also plan to work with others who run Mentorship Programs (Like Megan Spalding in Albers) to collect input on their assessment strategies. My goal is to work for an institution that supports veterans. Hurtado et Al. (1998) discuss how campus can create policies to enhance campus climate which has made me strongly realize that I want to work for an institution that has the policies in place to assist veteran students. If anything, I would love to work somewhere to enhance the veteran campus climate by putting policies in place that may not even be apparent at that point. Being that I am not a veteran, I cannot 100% relate to the needs of veterans. But this doesn't mean that just because I cannot relate I shouldn't help. I am more mindful to be sensitive and now have a greater awareness of how to support veteran's and their needs by utilizing technology and finding more resources to offer them, which in turn increase my knowledge.

As the NASPA Veteran's Representative I am responsible for researching materials and resources to Utilize technology to provide to the veteran community. It address students' mental is my job to offer these resources to health issues provide valuable input about the issues our veterans in higher education may be facing, such as PTSD.

Equity, Diversity and Basic Inclusion

Continue my involvement in global perspectives and initiatives to increase my awareness and enhance collaboration with my peers

In my future roles, I will use my knowledge in this area to ensure inclusiveness for all groups and populations which will most likely involve initiating awareness for social justice.

EDAD 570- Leadership in Education I: Mission Statement and my role as a Veteran Representative and NASPA Board Member

I have become a representative for NASPA because I strongly agree with their mission to cultivate student learning and success by serving and supporting professionals in this field. I plan to become more engaged with other associations to enhance my professional development in the field and align this work with my future roles in higher ed.

MBA 510- Leadership Skills and Team Development: Service learning project and personal community service contribution in the local community SDAD 576- Leadership and Governance in Post-Secondary Education: Point of View Essay; Networking with professionals from other institutions at conferences and inquiring about their institution and its mission.

I am mostly familiar with private, non-profit, religious institutions and feel quite at home here, whether I am attending or working as a professional. I am learning to go outside of my box to enhance my awareness. Thus, I feel it is important for my own development to go outside of my comfort zone and become more acquainted with other types of institutions either as a professional or through out collaborative roles.

History, Philosophy Basic and Values

I can only learn more about the historical contexts of instituions by being a part of them or speaking with others. Through networking with partners at other institutions I will work to increase my understanding of these areas. Continuing to attend conferences and workshops outside of SU will help to increase my knowledge in this area.

Demonstrate applications of appropriate advanced techniques for supervising unacceptable, marginal and exceptional staff performance

Role in supervising work study student within the CON. I was having problems with one of my work study students who was not producing up to expectations. By offering her a task sheet where she could manually check items of her list she was able to excel. This proved that simple changes in management can allow others to be successful, it is just a matter of knowing how to do this and determining when it will be most effective.

I have learned that when managing others it is crucial to know that everyone has different learning styles and will be seeking a role as an Assistant Director where I hope to supervisor multiple staff members. I strive to learn about those I supervise from the start in order to best serve and lead them by understanding how they learn and operate.

Support the Dean and Budget Manager in the CON- Draft Budget Narrative yearly requesting monies from the Provost. Create yearly budget needs for the Mentorship Program that gets submitted to the Dean.

In a future position I plan to have my own budget that I will have to forecast and manage. This will be a larger responsibility than just support those who do this in the College of Nursing.

I create an agenda and lead a weekly "Executive Meeting" within the College of Nursing. I request agenda Effectively manage and items from its members, prioritize the lead meetings through items and create and provide any the use og agenda necessary materials such as power pt management strategies presentations, handouts, etc. I also act as the timekeeper and meeting manager to ensure meetings stay timely and on track. I work with other departments and areas of SU on a daily basis in my role as the Coordinator to the Dean. This Develop appropriate is one of my jobs that I enjoy the alliances with others as a most. For example, I am in constant means to efficiently and contact with the Provost's office when effectively complete support the Rank & Tenure Process work assignments each year. Or I work with Human Resources during our yearly staff evaluation as the point person for this process.

My position requires me to act as the Dean's support but I will use these effective meeting management strategies in future positions where I will be running and leading meetings.

The more I work with other departments the more familiar I am with their work and how we can be effective for one another. I'm sure this will be true in future positions as I plan to welcome my assistance and support to ensure collaboration at all times. Just like Astin (1999) stresses the need for active involvement of students to enhance cultural awareness I believe this is the same for staff and faculty. The more active/engaged we are the more aware we will become.

I will like to become more active in judicial hearings on my future college campus to conitnue to learn how my institution is using policy with/for the students.

Leadership

Intermediate

Recognize interdependence of members within organizational units

MBA 510- Leadership Skills and Team Development : Application Paper> Awareness of emotions, focus on stewardship and servant leadership; MGMT 575: Leading with Emotional Intelligence EDAD 571- Leadership in Education II: Final Reflection> Enhancing the capacity of workers within an organization by focusing on a common goal; SU CON Accreditation Site Visit Spring 2012> I managed the organization of the accrediation site visit which entailed managing 8 staff person to complete major tasks.

I consider myself a very transparent person both professionally and personally. I find this is the best way for me to move forward because it is when I am most authentic. I am very open and aware of my emotions and find it is best to be clear with how I feel or encourage others to do so. I have found this strategy to be quite effective in the work place and will use it in the future.

Facilitate consensus processes where wide support is needed.

I have found that when leading, setting a common goal and collaborating on ways to reach proves to be most beneficial so we all are reaching for the same thing. I typically do not lead the other staff members in the College of Nursing as we are more like peers but in a future position I hope to lead staff in similar processes since I have now proved myself successful.

Create environments that encourage students to view themselves as having the potential to make meaningful contributions to their communities and be civillay engaged in their communities

My work to lead the Alumni-Student Mentorship Program while creating activities and mentorship Since I am not actually acting as the mentor or role model in the mentorship program, I opportunities that allow students to acknowledge that I need more hands on work with students to develop further in this area. work with a role model who will encourage them to be their best selves.

I felt the need to advocate for change in the Mentorship Program when the Dean insisted the program include both undergrad and grad students. After one year of including both groups I realized the lack of Advocate for change engagement of the grad students. Thus within the division that I felt it important to inform the Dean would remove barriers to of this through my assessment of student and staff success satisfaction which showed the low activity of this population. I was able to advocate for the success of the program and the undergrad students by using assessment to dictate the program needs. In the instance above, I thought it was crucial to include the Dean and her Executive Team in the decision making process for the Mentorship Program. So I invited myself and coleader to present our program at one of their meetings. I offered supporting information to explain why I was looking to move forward in such a direction and also asked them questions to ensure we were meeting the goals of the college when deciding to change the program a bit (not including grad students any more).

I believe I must become more aware of these barriers to become an advocate. As the leader, I have been fully immersed in the Mentorship Program and its needs thus allowing me to know where our pro's and con's were. In future positions I aim to become more involved in student issues to which I can then have the opportunity to be an advocate for.

Seek entrepreneurial perspectives when planning for change.

I have not been in a position where I can make many changes as I only support policies right now. In higher level positions I feel I will have this privilege and it will be important to me to include other perspectives of the team and not to just move forward with my own plans and desires.

I am aware of who I am and my values yet am mindful that they are constantly changing as I grow and advance. In my future job search it is important that I research an institution to ensure its mission matches my own set of values in order for me to parallel the collaborative efforts.

My background in psychology and training in COUN 510 has offered me great skills in working with others to help understand their values and attitudes which may affect my (or their) work. I seek to maintain transparency and emotional awareness which will allow me to work with others on the same level to establish collaboration.

I am always eager to attend professional development activities and find there are often such opportunities in higher ed. I will continue to take part in activities like these to stay on top of my professional development and to increase my knowledge and awareness in specific areas that may be outside my professional role.

Student Learning and Basic Develop-ment

Patton, McEwen, Rendon & Howard-Hamilton (2007) discuss the value and use of theory in higher education but also how racial realities are addressed in a critical race theory lends. They offer recommendations for creating theoretical race perspectives in student affairs which I find useful and plan to keep as a foundation for future progression. While I am becoming more versed in theories, I acknowledge how important theory is especially when understanding race and implementing programs around these topics.
