Option #2: Website: Solving a problem or examining an issue that affects your community Extra credit (2 points) will be given to groups that work on option #2. Create a website that reports on your research on a problem or an issue of your choice. Here are the steps: 1. Work in a group to brainstorm and identify a problem or an issue (e.g., Internet piracy and budget cuts) that you would like to research. 2. Analyze at least three credible sources (e.g., articles, book chapters and web sites) that can help you clearly define the problem and its significance. 3. Collect information about the factors that contribute to the problem, its impact on you and your community, and possible solutions. In addition to using online or library materials, you should survey individuals who are knowledgeable about the problem or issue. Here are survey tools that you may wish to use for creating a brief survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/ and http://www.surveygizmo.com/. You may also use Google forms. 4. Analyze the information and data that you have collected and propose a viable and practical solution based on the sources that you reviewed and on the findings from the survey. 5. Create a Web site (using GoogleSites, Wetpaint, Wikispaces, Weebly or Wix for example) that documents the process of your group research. That is, your site should illustrate the problem, its causes, effects, possible solutions, the solution that your group recommends, and the rationale for your recommendation, with reference to your sources and survey findings. 6. Be prepared to present your research to the class. Here is a suggested outline for your Web site: Statement of the problem Significance of the problem Causes Impacts on the community Possible solutions Result of the survey Recommended solution and rationale References Appendix: Survey/ questionnaire Item Web site design and visual appeal Problem identification; analysis of sources Causes Effects Possible solutions and recommendation Rationale for the recommendation Survey questions Survey analysis and results Mechanics (grammar and spelling) Total Points 4 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 20
