Projects for special audiences (sic) began with acting in theatre for the deaf. I learned to sign my role for! Fairmount Theatre of the Deafs wild west version of The Miser and its PBS production.! GLBT theatre (special audiences?) followed with independent productions of the musical Fourtune, SFs Theatre Rhinoceross Artists Involved with Death and Survival aka! The AIDS Show, 1984pre-Normal Heart. The death threat letter I received was in the scrawl of ten year-old. Another AIDS themed play I produced was Miles to Go, 1986. Miles To Go performances included pre- and post-testing of audience members as a graduate thesis project under the auspices of SDSU School of Public Healths Dr. Deborah Rugg.! In 1986 I founded Diversionary Theatre on the dance-oor at THE popular San Diego disco, West Coast Production Company. Having successfully produced a fundraiser for! No on 64 campaign in the space, I decided the sunken arena dance oor worked as a playing space and there was an audience to serve.! ! ! After producing new work I began play writing in earnest. Friday Night Refugees (writer-director) words and music by Romanovsky & Phillips played at the RUSE/Marquee Theatre. The show was created in workshop using residents from Stepping Stone Recovery Home. Obsessed with the burgeoning cafe culture of the 1980s and its vibrant conversations, gossip, table hopping and eavesdropping led to my rst major work. I saw the cafe as group away from group therapy.! Cafe Depresso: Where Prozac Caffeine and Black Leather Converge! emerged. First! presented! at SUSHI Performance Art Gallery, the production at SF's Exit theatre played a sold-out run. Additional information here.

Writing for corporate theatre, again for a special audience, hold special meaning for me. I was brought in to solve a clinical research impasse amongst clinical study coordinators during the Donepezil (ARICEPT) human subject phase. The EASI/Pzer project played in SF, Chicago and NY. ARICEPT was the rst FDA treatment for Alzheimers Disease. Other works were produced at the Fritz Theatres Fritz Blitz of Plays. I participated in SFs! The Marsh! and Studio ACT's writers workshop with! Ken Prestininzi. Most recently, Respond w/Pics (playwright-director) played as a staged reading at ION Theatre. ! ! Graduate studies in Speech-Language Pathology led to! re-evaluating my aesthetic. ! ! The concept of content and form is cross-dicipline in the Arts.! The Chomskyan theory (see below) of deep structure and surface structure inform content (deep structure) and form (surface structure) provides another application to artistic process. ! ! I also am contemplating on writing comedy, its transference to the actor and the effect it has on an audience. Laughter is a muscle spasm in response to humor, laughter. Content (thought) and form (physical/physiology)! combine. Instigating laughter is an act of ! "violence." These recapitulations came about! after! dropping out of graduate studies in Speech-Language Pathology and 20 years of work in the Theatre. More at thomveghintoto.weebly.com.
