A Picture Worth A Hundred Words

By Fiona Skleparis Year 9 IST

Define The Problem A problem definition is a clear statement about what the information system, digital product or piece of software aims to achieve when it is implemented. Digital Images are needed to promote Saint Ursulas College to the wider College to the wider community. Record a problem definition for the situation described The situation is to; promote Saint Ursulas College Kingsgrove, to the wider community by using digital media such as images and music to encourage young learners to join the College by using positive images for example students playing. Why have the teachers requested you to use Creative Commons? Teachers have requested to use Creative Commons music because it is a free copyright program that has music, movies, images, and other content to be used for presentations. Construct a KWHL chart assessing your skills using Adobe Photoshop Elements 6. K What skills do I know in Photoshop Changing photo contrast W What skills H How am I do I need for the going to learn Photoshop the skills Creating different layers on a picture How to open a picture Saving Images L What have I learnt throughout the project By going through I have learnt to the different use Photoshop functions the program can do Using the Atomic Editing pictures Learning site Trial and error To make a video on Windows Live Movie Maker

Cropping a picture Erasing a background

Altering brightness settings Saving a Photoshop picture into a JPEG.

Analysing the Problem In order to understand the problem, each component must be analysed and questioned. It can be quite expensive to implement a system if the parts are not properly understood or considered. For example: The College could be considering implementing a system for electronic roll marking. Some of the constraints may be: Constraints Technical Description Does the hardware/software exist to solve the problem Does the media/project fit the needs of the organisation Is their money available to achieve the solution Does the project/media infringe anyones rights? Example Some schools have already implemented a swipe card system for attendance The school would benefit from a more efficient roll marking system The school may not have the money to purchase the system Some students may fell their privacy is being invaded

Think of some constraints which may affect the Image portfolio Constraints Technical Description There was a difficulty uploading the Photoshop program onto every students laptop The Laptops Example Some students had the program and others did not.

Operational

The Laptops made the job a lot easier because everyone had their own laptop but there

The video does not infringe anyones rights.

were technical difficulties such as saving images and files and getting onto the Faculty Public drive If there were any technical difficulties or damaged to the Laptops, they had to be replaced or sent in to be fixed. No photos have been used without the persons permission

Designing the Solution Production of Linear Storyboard The major stage in project development is the design phase; a time where you come with a variety of solutions to solve the problem. Rather than jumping in and choosing any old photos to create your video, think carefully about the mood/message you would like to create. A storyboard id a design tool used in digital media production. It demonstrates how a multimedia item navigates or processes. Below are some examples of Storyboards. You will be expected to construct a linear storyboard

It should be evident that each slide/image will follow the previous in a line or linear fashion.

Producing the Solution You will be required to produce your video for the purpose described Application software is used to produce a solution to the problem. Application software can include: Word Processing Applications e.g. Microsoft Word, Neooffice Graphics editing Applications e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Elements Video production: Windows Movie Maker Or Application by negotiation with your teacher You have been developing skills in the use of Adobe Photoshop. In order to produce the desired solution, you will need to be able to Adjust Photography levels Add Text Use Layers Manipulate Layers

You can now go and select your images from a folder you can create in your School Work folder. Now you can either Windows Movie Maker or Animoto Education to create your video. Windows Movie Maker is an application with a higher degree of difficulty.

Evaluating the Solution- Self Evaluation Finally youve finished your video; however, it is really important to obtain constructive feedback as to whether its met the objectives stated in the Problem Definition (Defining the Problem).

Use the following table below to evaluate your final product (selfevaluation). Criterion Functionality Questions to ask Did the video play as expected? How well has the digital media author done their job? E.g. Are the images contained clear? Are there any spelling mistakes? Was the project straightforward- did it solve the problem Was the content satisfactory Did the digital media author complete the task required Was project tidy and delivered in suitable form? Did the project meet all the specification set? Was the project delivered on time? Is the entire content original? Are the sources documented? Problems to be considered Did you test the video on a number of computers Maybe get a peer to look over your final project prior to submission

Criterion

Assessment of My Video The video played as expected I tested my video on two different computers my school laptop and my home desktop computer The images are clear and there are not any spelling mistakes, though there is a black background in majority of the pictures which might be boring. The project was straightforward I do not think my video is too fancy with effects/transitions I think my video lacked detail with Photo Shopped effects I did complete the required tasks required, using Photoshop and Windows Movie Maker The project was tidy and delivered in a suitable form and I think it meets the requirements for being displayed to the public The project did meet all the specifications

Functionality

Assessment of Peers Video (Elena Trajkovski) The video played as it was expected to for the project.

Quality

All the images were of good quality and were clear in the video.

Simplicity

The video was perfect for the set task and was fit for all the task requirements The video has the right amount of detail Elena did complete the tasks required with the suitable content for the task The project was tidy and fit the standards to be played/viewed in a public area

What is Creative Commons? Creative Commons is a new system, built upon current copyright law that allows you to legally use some rights reserved music, movies, images and other content- all for free. CC offers free copyright licences that anyone can use (without a lawyer) to mark their creative work with the freedoms they want it to carry. For instance, a musician would use a Creative Commons licence to allow people to legally share her songs online, make copies for friends, or even use them in videos or other compositions.
