University of Wisconsin - Madison, Political Science Department January 2005 to Present IT Coordinator Responsible for all IT consultation, support and web needs of 40 faculty, 100 Ph.D. students and eight staff Maintain and support 100 faculty/staff Windows and Mac workstations and three servers in a networked domain Webmaster for the departmental website, consultant for many project and personal sites for faculty & grads Transitioned the departmental website through three thorough and major upgrades of design and layout Designed, developed and deployed a custom Content Management System (CMS) for our latest website Developed and supported several web-based applications: faculty recruitment database, course waitlists, merit system, online course evaluations, and an online survey system Developed several special web publicity projects: an online experts listing, streaming audio faculty interviews, electronic and print alumni newsletter Coordinated a full network upgrade including wiring, switches, routers, etc. for our entire four-story building Wrote several successful grants for purchase of new equipment and software University of Wisconsin - Madison, Department of Urban & Regional Planning July 2007 to Present IT Coordinator (33% position, split with Political Science) Provide consulting for ten faculty and 30 graduate students to determine the best use of various technologies in their research and teaching Led the department through two complete website re-designs, resulting in an attractive graphic design featuring greatly improved navigation and layout (urpl.wisc.edu) Provide support to a teaching computer lab of 20 PCs and a windows server Implemented a software license metering and sharing system Upgraded several aspects of the building network system to modern standards Designed and implemented a plan for an upgraded high-tech audio-visual classroom University of Wisconsin - Madison, Center for the Study of Politics January 2005 to July 2007 Technology Specialist (33% position, split with Political Science) Acted as the primary technical consultant for a large project that analyzed video source data from 30 media markets nationwide (local news broadcasts & political campaign ads) and coded that data into a web database system Managed the Centers lab environment of over 30 workstations and five servers Provided full technical support to center staff and a large team of undergraduate workers Configured and supported Windows Media Video streaming servers, housing several terabytes of data Performed digitization of video from DVD and VHS into streaming file formats Installed a video capture server in Milwaukee to capture local news broadcasts, digitize and transmit them to the center Managed the public website for the Center University of Wisconsin - Whitewater, Technology & Information Resources Department 2000 to 2004 Assistant to the Director of Instructional Technology Services Responsible for consulting with faculty and staff and assisting them with their classroom and computer lab needs Aided in the management of UW-W's General Access Labs which contain over 400 computers used by students Maintained hardware and recommended purchases for approximately 2,000 computers throughout various departments on campus; created, maintained and deployed software images for all departmental labs Supported over 40 multimedia classrooms on campus; provided support to a distance education classroom Wrote documentation on software and equipment; created a dynamic website for training instructors on classroom multimedia and presentation equipment
