PREPAREDNESS
1. Regular orientation exercises to keep abreast of the Disaster Management Plan, possible twice for the year 2. Email all persons the Disaster Response Plan for a chemical leak. This document would include evacuation routes, protocols on awaiting instructions, and the emergency committee personnel and muster point locations. 3. Educate chemical handlers on proper and safe laboratory practises including personal protective equipment. 4. Bi annual drills to test the functionality of the Emergency response plan (ERP) emphasizing a calm approach in the event of a disaster 5. Have a log of employees and students paying careful attention to those with special needs e.g. hearing, visual or physical impairment.

RESPONSE
1. At the sound of the emergency alarm, follow the established protocols of the disaster response plan 2. Obey and cooperate with the Emergency Response personnel. 3. Calmly proceed to the muster points if directed to do so 4. Assist in guiding others to the relevant areas 5. Assist the impaired using alternative means of communication e.g. using hand signals to guide the hearing impaired 6. Always keep track of co-workers, fellow students and others to ensure that all are out of danger. 7. Alert emergency personnel in the event that someone is missing or trapped within a building 8. Communication with families of victims to pacify concerns until the disaster submerges

RECOVERY
1. Perform a post-disaster head count 2. Tend to the injured and document all injuries and fatalities if any 3. Improve the disaster management plan 4. Reuniting students and other victims with their families 5. Post-disaster counselling for students etc.
