HUL254 Art and Technology 4 credits (3-1-0) Pre-requisites: HUN100 This course will study the nature of the

art object comprising both the cognitive and the aesthetic. It will be an attempt to work out a relation between truth, morality and beauty and differentiate between the beautiful and the sublime. It will also focus on the element of creativity in art, science and technology by examining the differences between the genius and the expert. It will examine the aesthetics of engineering design and the effect of mechanical and electronic reproduction on the nature of the work of art. Finally, it will consider the relationship between media entertainment and information technology by differentiating between media as message and mass deception. Critical strategies to understand the role of power and ideology in information societies will be examined.
