TECHNOLOGY IN LANGUAGE TEACHING AND LEARNING IN INDIA: A STUDY

With the advent of technology, the world has been shrinking every day and the global language, English has gained recognition as an essential mode of communication not only among English speaking nations but also in the nations as second language and foreign language. The growing importance of the language is obvious due to the increase of merchandizing among the nations and the companies feat to reach the customers worldwide. So the scope of language is getting wider; and the learners and the teachers of language have to be aware of tools available for the language learning in the age of cyber world which offers tremendous sources to utilize like interactive learning websites; blogs, forums for discussion; podcasts offering audio and visual aids; online apps; downloadable applications for tablet computers and mobiles; and pages in social networking websites. But in a country like India, these technological advancements have not reached the rural students for whom succeeding in a job interview is still a tougher nut to crack.

The paper aims at giving an insight into the language pedagogy with the aid of technology in Indian scenario where English is termed as second and third language though English holds much stronger part in professional and regular life. The rapid development of information technology has offered varied chances to engage the students with a better teaching model. So the discussion also includes the strategies for effective student-centered teaching and the role of students in language learning.
