Data Notebook Creation Second Grade Mathematics 1. 2.1.2.

C: Use drawings or models to show the concept of a fraction as part of a whole; use whole numbers and simple fractions (halves, thirds, and fourths) to represent quantities. Math Objectives First Try (I got # correct out of 5) Second Try (I got # correct out of 5) Third Try (I got # correct out of 5) I can create equal amounts using two pieces of ________. I can create equal amounts using three pieces of ________. I can create equal amounts using four pieces of ________. I can create smaller amounts by removing half of the picture. I can create smaller amounts by removing 1/3 of the picture. Fourth Try (I got # correct out of 5)

I can create smaller amounts by removing of the picture.

The way that I would use this would be to have the students use pie charts, pizzas, shapes, blocks, any type of manipulative that can be a certain number of pieces together to make a whole pie or half a pie or a third of a pie. The students would have four tries to get 5 out of 5 amounts correct. They would be prompted with a worksheet as to what problems they would need to be able to complete. For example I would have a problem that states of the pizza plus of the other pizza would equal ______? The student would have to be able to take one piece of the pizza that was a half and add it with another half of a pizza to make a whole. 2. M3.A.3.1.2: Solve problems involving multiplication through the 9s tables through 9x5. For this chart I would have the students monitor how many multiplication facts they were able to correctly answer on our timed tests. They would color in how many problems they answered correctly. This would help them to be able to see what they would need to work on.

Timed Test Data

Goal: We will correctly answer 20 problems on each Timed Basic Facts Test.

3. 3.5.2.F: Use grade appropriate conventions of language when writing and editing. Spell common, frequently used words correctly. Use capital letters correctly. Punctuate correctly. Use correct grammar and sentence formation. Attached is a document called Spelling Data Monitoring Tools with 1st and 2nd grade word lists. I would have the students use the last chart in this document for when writing papers. This would help them to see what progress they are making with their spelling in their papers over the term. (I could not get the chart to copy correctly). 4. 1.2.3.C: Distinguish between essential and nonessential information within and across a variety of texts, identifying exaggeration where present. For this standard I would look at the students overall reading tests scores. Their tests would be based off of our weekly or biweekly readings from our textbooks. The students would monitor how well they performed on the test. If the scored 90% or higher they would color a smiley face in green, a 70% to 89% would be a yellow and below 70% would be a red smiley face. The goal is to have more than half of the smiley faces colored in green. If they are successful there will be a small reward at the end of the month. 5. 1.1.3.B: Use knowledge of phonics, word recognition (e.g., root words, prefixes, suffixes and syllabication), and context clues to decode and understand new words during reading. My idea for this standard and the chart would be for the students to know which words they should know. As we learn new words in class and become more familiar with their uses the students would color in the words that they are able to use with 95% accuracy. I would have to help the students monitor their progress with this when correcting their assignments and reviewing with them. As they know their words they would highlight the box the word is found in on their chart. (Chart attached 3rd grade High Frequency Words)
