109 Silverleaf Ct Mt. Holly, NC 28120 November 7, 2013 Dear Nick Carraway, I am Devin Whalen.

Although we have never met, I share your grief with Mr. Gatsbys death. I heard about his tremendous parties and his castle he had bought on West Egg. I was devastated to hear of his passing and extend my deepest sympathies. Gatsby was truly an inspiration for me as I found out about his story. How from humble beginnings, he rose up to become a one of the richest men in New York. I envy your friendship you had with him. I heard he was the most hopeful person one would ever meet. Its no wonder he became so successful with money. I hope that you will somehow make his legacy known to everyone. No one is more fit to do it than you are. With warmest regards, Devin Whalen

Return letter: Address Not Given Dear Devin, Thank you for your condolences. Gatsbys parties were the least of his greatness. There is a story of love and a broken heart, something the papers had left out entirely. You see Gatsby felt wed to Daisy. He once told me he had to keep climbing but only if he could climb alone. It was dangerous for a man like him to fall in love. The last thing I said to him was, Theyre a rotten crowd. Youre worth the whole damn bunch put together. Ive always been glad I said that. It was the only compliment I ever gave him, because I disproved of him beginning to end. Thank you again for your letter. I thought I was alone on Gatsbys side but it seems I have at least one ally. And you asked me to spread his legacy. I think I might write a book. Sincerely, Nick Carraway
