RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
09/2013 - present Frohlich Lab, Department of Psychiatry, UNC-Chapel Hill Mentor: Dr. Flavio Frohlich, Assistant Professor A study of network dynamics for visual sensory gating in primary visual cortex using animal model. Using freely moving ferrets with multichannel extracellular electrodes and flashing light as visual stimulus. Contributions include: - Created the controlling codes for behavioral experiment using Data Acquisition Toolbox - Independently conducted data analysis using customized codes for analysis of multiunit firing pattern, local field potential and the correlation between micro- and mesoscopic dynamics - Found that the multiunit firing rate is modulated; phase-locked dynamics is shown while no changes produced in network dynamics by measuring power domain - Co-presented a poster on UNC Psychiatry Research Day Created the controlling codes for both training levels and final experiments of a network-level reward-learning study using animal model (ongoing) 10/2010 07/2013 Bio-X Lab, Department of Physics, Zhejiang University Mentor: Dr. Xiaowei Tang, Professor Independently conducted a literature research on the mechanism of mental calculation and its extension on abacus-based mental calculation. Highlights include: - Systematic review of the models for mental calculation and related abacus-based mental calculation with capacity of visual working memory An EEG study of emotional modulation of attentional blink. Contributions include: - Actively engaged in the experiment conduction using 64 channel scalp EEG - Independently conducted the data analysis and computational modelling using cluster-based analysis, with techniques including time-frequency decomposition, independent component analysis and group level source analysis - Findings include potential mechanism of attentional suppression and emotional modulation A resting-state EEG study of abacus-based mental calculation. Contributions include: - Independently conducted the computational modelling using connectivity analysis and graphical network analysis. - Analytic methods include combining auto-regressive modelling and directed Direct Transform Function to compute functional and effective connectivity in frequency domain; using graphical visualization to verify the relationship between candidate cortical areas 07/2012 08/2012 Dynamic Memory Lab, Center for Neuroscience, UC Davis Mentor: Dr. Charan Ranganath, Professor Contributed to an intracranial EEG study of the effect of reward learning on long-term memory. - Independently analyzed the data for one paradigm (total is six; target location is habenula) using ERP, time-frequency analysis and nonparametric statistical test - Discovered P300 and both early and late alpha band modulation of reward prediction Co-presented a poster on the Interdisciplinary Research Internship Symposium 2012 GREAT Program.
