PROVIDING A LIFE OF OPPORTUNITY FOR A CHILD WITH A PHYSICAL DISABILITY

Individuals/small families are able to support themselves through small agricultural business, including: -Chicken coops for egg production -Zero grazing cows for milk production -Beehives for honey -Goats for milk -Other entrepreneurial businesses

FARAJA FARM PROJECT GOAL

Farm Project primary goal Train many of the students, despite their physical limitations, to eventually be employed or self-employed. Training to include: -On-site experience -Modifying labor techniques & equipment accessibility -Provide capital for small businesses

FARAJA FARM PROJECT OBJECTIVES

Expand the Faraja Farm, both crops and animal livestock. High cash yielding crops (chili peppers, avocados, spices) will be planted on increased acreage. Hire agricultural teacher who will work with occupational therapist to train students with modified work techniques and equipment to accommodate for physical limitations. Once students trained in agriculture they will be well equipped to be employed. Many students will be cable of operating their own small business.

OPPORTUNITY
Assist in evaluating and developing techniques and tools to adapt and modify farm equipment to accommodate various physical limitations. Study agriculture areas least friendly to the handicapped. Create externship at Faraja School to create collaborative solutions and promote agriculture in Tanzania, Africa. Publish successes internationally.

FARAJA OFFERS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY

Residential school of almost 100 students Staff being added to include education in animal husbandry, modern crop techniques, market potential, and management. Each student is physically challenged (upper & lower body amputations and prosthesis, wheelchair, walker, crutches, braces, nerve damage, dwarfism, and other limitations). The Faraja farm is the perfect environment for study.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE
In most of the developing world, the physically disabled have essentially been excluded from the Agricultural Industry. Modifications in equipment and farming techniques can open the door globally for the handicapped to participate in many aspects of the agricultural economy. These developments would be nothing short of revolutionary and are an important by-product of the work being done at Faraja.
