Zyad Alahmadi Mrs. Linda Hoffmann Writing & inquiry in academic context I- combined-201380 12/1/2013

Final Reflection The best entry I had in English 1101 is the introductory writing, where I wrote about myself. I consider this assignment the best among the others because it has the best hook. Simply, when the reader reads the piece, he finds something to look up for reading the piece. What I have done was that I pictured the reader as a person walking through a long aisle, which is supposed to be mine, and finds a phone with four applications that is used to know the persons that owns this aisle.

In English 1101, I wrote two major assignments. The inquiry to English and literacy, and inquiry of discourse community. I was asked to draft this two assignments three times. In the second draft, comments from writing group are used to make some changes on the first draft. In the final draft, comments from the writing instructor are used to make some changes on the second draft. This process was applied on both assignments. By exploring these assignments sections in the e-portfolio, you will be able to read the three drafts of these

assignments, read the comments on the drafts, and note the changes done on each assignment from draft to another.

By reading the portfolio, you will be able to see my technique in writing my assignment, which is the technique that you will learn in English 1101. Simply, this technique is to revise and share. So, you will share your drafts with your group to take comments and you will revise the drafts by applying changes to the drafts by considering the comment you got. Also, you will observe the importance of research as far as writing is concerned. This is how the portfolio will illustrate about me as a writer.

Throughout the semester in English 1101, the drafts I wrote was read and commented on by the writing group and the writing instructors. By using these comments, I applied some changes on my drafts. The changes applied to these drafts were significant, it helped my drafts to be clearer and easier to read, and it shaped the big picture in my writings.

In English 1101, I have learned the proper way of writing and reading. I have learned the technique to write academically and the technique to analyze a reading and read properly. After learning these techniques, a significant improve in my English literature took place. I am more able now than ever to write an

essay that have a big picture, understandable, and clear. I am more able now than ever to read someones writing and analyze it academically to understand it completely.

Outlining the process I took to produce the literacy and community entries. First, inquiry to literacy and English. In this assignment, I was asked to write a first draft from my own brainstorming on the given topic. Then, I reviewed this draft with my writing group and wrote comments on it to help me make some changes. After, I applied changes to the draft corresponding to the writing groups comments. Then, the second draft was reviewed and commented on by the instructor in order to help me make the final changes to the draft. After, I applied another changes corresponding to the instructors comments to end up with the final draft. The same process was applied to the inquiry of discourse community assignment.

Throughout the class, I struggled with many things when drafting my assignments. One of the main problems I had was getting blank when I was writing the inquiry to literacy. However, this problem was tackled by reviewing the draft with the writing group when I got a comment of how to continue writing my draft. Another weakness of mine was the clutter in my writings. I expected that this problem would be solved by cutting the clutter away from the draft. However,

I used the instructors comments to make more sense in the clutter I had in my drafts.

In the portfolio, you will find a number of writings. Some are major writings, the others are informal. I have included the inquiry to English and literacy and the inquiry of discourse community and two reflections as major assignments. I have also included the introductory to class, response to Women talk too much, response to Mother tongue, response to No kinda sense, response to Merabellis essay, response to Simplicity, group notes on Women talk too much, group notes on Inquiry of discourse community, Individual notes on Myths, and comments on Michelles portfolio assignments as informal in-class and out-of-class writings.

In the phase of designing my e-portfolio, I tried to make sure that the design will be beautiful and relaxing to make it comfortable to look around the portfolio and to read. I added the music box with relaxing piano music to read, and it too to leave the option of playing the music to the portfolio reader. In addition, I tried to make sure that the design will be organized to make it easy for the portfolio reader to understand the structure of the site and dont feel lost.

If I were to continue writing and revising one of my drafts, I would try to make the way I approach my writing more innovative. That is, it would be easier and more likely for any reader to be hooked to the piece and wants to complete and understand the whole thing.

I think of I would to continue learning writing and reading English, I would like to take my writing to the next level by learning the techniques to hook the readers, how to write a clean of clutter drafts, and the different types of writings.
