goals and interests in mind. Whether the goal be winning a game or worshiping a common entity you are united through common passions. The word belonging is defined by merriam-webster.com as A close or intimate relationship. The word can encompass a variety of different things, because everyone is a part of something different. Belonging to something is an important part of living a healthy life style. Humans by nature are social and want to be a part of a group. When you are a member of the UNCC community you are part of an academic group with a common goal of higher knowledge. In order to be a part of this community you must apply and be admitted to the university. Part of being a part of this learning community is practicing, rehearsing and learning new material. Belongingness can be so much more as well. When referring to groups such as family or friends people strive for the feeling of love and friendship. Love and friendship are two interesting human qualities that are involved in belonging. Belonging to a family is something that everyone strives for in their lives. Often times people have goals in life to have a family and live their lives in peace and harmony. People strive to belong because it is a human instinct. Unlike other animals humans tend to live in large groups such as cities and towns. Very rarely do you see people that like to live in isolation.
